Lets first point out the most obvious thing about this trade. The 7th round pick, Wright, amounted to nothing and is no longer in the NFL. Though, that shouldn't hit anybody as a HUGE surprise, since picks in the 7th round are rarely succesful. Occasionally will you hit gold on a starter or find a decent backup. Most don't last long and just fizzle out.

Samson Satele came in last season and became an instant starter at center. He has the potential to be the starting center for this team for the next decade. Without a good line in the NFL, your running game and passing game will struggle, no matter who you have at the skill positions.

I truely believe Wes Welker would not have had a huge year like he did if remained with the Dolphins. The fact that Welker had the best QB in the NFL throwing to him and that fact that Randy Moss was also on the field made things easy for him. You put Welker on any other team in the league besides the Patriots, and I think he is an average receiver who gets maybe 50 catches in the season.

Despite Wright fizzling out way to early, I think Miami made out better on this trade. They got a guy who will be a fixture on the offensive line for many many years.

Chris Chambers for a 2nd round pick(Chad Henne):

I liked Chambers and thought he made the most amazing catches. However, he would also drop the easy ones. I also hated the fact that everytime he dropped a ball or just didn't give that extra effort he would raise his hand in the air and shake his wrist looking for a flag.

He is a very good receiver and will be a big part of San Diego's success. He will never be an elite receiver, but he will be a very good one. San Diego is on the verge of a trip to the Super Bowl, we are rebuilding. Chambers is 30 years old this season, so by the time we will be up there for a trip to a possible Super Bowl, he will be 33 or 34 years old.

Chad Henne has showed great promise in the preseason and training camp. I think he will prove to be the next long term starter at QB for the Dolphins.

So, in conclusion, I think both trades were good for the future of this franchise.
I always enjoy reading your posts Nublar.

I agree that Welker wouldn't have done as much here as he did in NE. It's foolish for people to believe that he would have. I really don't believe there are many Miami fans that believe he would have put up the same #s here.

That being said, he was still a good receiver here. Even without Brady, I think Welker is better than Chambers. I think it would be great to have Welker here with Ginn and Hagan and Pennington throwing the ball to him.

I agree with you though, and like I said before though, Satele>>>Welker.

If we had the " right " people running this team. We'd talking about how great it is to have all 4 guys.

I wouldn't call Chambers garbage, he had some spectacular moments for us. But Yeah, Satale and Henne by a mile.

As much as I liked Welker's heart when he was here, I go Satele. IMO without Moss, Welker is a good slot receiver. I think Ginn is better as a returner so we don't miss his special teams play. As for Chambers, he declined rapidly after his Pro Bowl season and did nothing after being traded. Getting a QB of the future for him is a steal.

I'm just curious. Why is everyone so quick to assume Satele will be a Dolphin for his entire career?

Chambers was pretty damn good after he was traded. He was a solid target for Rivers and in the playoffs had 16 catches. The chambers hate on this board is overboard. Guarantee that Chambers will have a bteer year than any dolphin receiver

you mean his fake heart... Remember how he always wished he was in a ratriots uniform standing on Miami sidelines? Welker belongs with the Ratriots

See thats why i like this board so much, we can disagree hard on somethings and agree on others. People were too hard on chambers, his is as good or better than everyone we have right now BUT...his ceiling is not even close to what Ginn's ceiling is. If he develops and continues his progression he could be Moss, Owens great- Chambers could NEVER be that good.

D he had 4 touchdowns on the year and in 3 playoff games he did have 16 catches but only 1 TD. He also costs the Chargers 5.1 mil this season and 4.5 next. It will be interesting to see if his numbers decline this season the way they declined with us.

I think with those 2 picks, they would've drafted 2 busts. So I wouldn't have made the trades at the time
