[quote=nyjunc;1062590142]The dolphin poster was speaking in hypotheticals not me and if you want to play that our record still would have been better b/c we had more close games and not just some backdorr covers like you had to make the scores look closer than they were.

We beat Pitt who was a playoff team.

We have a recent history of being an every other year team. We were going to be playoff contenders pre-Favre.
Gimme a break man, so because of history, you are automatically slated to be playoff contenders. Maybe by only Jets fans. The only spots the Jets are contending for are 3rd or 4th in the division, forecasted by EVERYONE who is not a Jets fan... With or without Favre.

Quote:
You can spin it all you want but Faneca is still in the top 2-3 of OL and will be for years, Jenkins is a beast in the middle,. Favre was great as recently as LAST YEAR, Jones only had 1 TD but you guys are putting your stock in a RB who has barely played since 2004- a guy that QUIT on you and was suspended TWICE. Coles is going to play, he's better when he's angry, that overpaid Lb is somone you desperately wanted and someone phin fans were calling great when you thought you had him signed. Funny how that works, isn't it? You think you have pace he's great, the Jets get him he sucks.
Yes, we desperately wanted Pace, but we were about to overpay for him, which was what the Jets did with ALL their offseason aquisitions. If that overpaod player does not live up to ever cent of his contract, you guys will be nowhere as good as Jets fans think, which is worse than reality.

Too bad he wasnt angry when Zach knocked him out of numerous games. Noone plays better when angry. I thinks its hilarious when people state, "We arent putting all our stock in Ricky", while reality says to be the opposite. At this point, Ricky is a luxury we pay close to nothing for. We have 2 very capable starting runningbacks as #1 and #2 on our depth chart. The Jets dont have any, Jones cant run in TD's for you, and Leon Washington is not a starter in this league (although he is dynamic). Chatman, we wont even get into that.

Quote:
You say Chad sucks all these years as a Jet then you get him and he's great. You guys have been in rebuilding mode most of this decade w/ nothing to show for it, we have been in the postseason as recently as 2 years ago. I like our chances.
The name Chad never came out of my mouth in this arguement.

I haven't seen everyone's columns yet but at espn.com the consenus is #2 not #3 or 4.

http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/preview08/team?team=nyj

si.com has us tied for 2nd:

http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/200...x.html?eref=T1

We have been an every other year team since 2002, it's a fact and we patched up our holes this year. We may not be ready to compete w/ NE for a div title but we have a solid football team that will be a playoff contender barring disastrous injuries.

Actually you were, the rumblings were you were going to pay him about $20 mil, we paid 22. Not that big of a difference.

you mean when Zach had that cheapshot? We still beat you AGAIN and Coles has dominated Miami through the years.

B/c Jones had 1 poor TD year he can't run it in for us? we only had 6 as a team and 2 were by QBs so only 4 rysh TDs by RBs, that was a result of poor OL play. Jones' previous 3 seasons he had 6, 9 and 7 rush TDs.

Leon could definitely be a styarter in this league, they are afraid to b/c of his size but so was TB w/ Warrick Dunn. Leon is a dynamic playmaker and you should know that b/c he's killed you guys in multiple ways.

Chatman behind your poor OL last year averaged 4 YPC. he gives us quality depth.

I am not about to come on here and say that Miami is going to win the game. If I learned one thing from last year it was not to put much faith in this team, yet.

That being said, as was already mentioned, the Dolphins have no pressure this year except from the coach and obviously BP, which granted is alot. They have a lot of young guys who have nothing to lose. We don't have any proven playmakers, save for Ricky and Ronnie, when healthy. But Miami will be playing fast, physical and aggressive, more than at any time in the recent history of this team. They will win with defense, the running game and strong special teams. They will not turn the ball over and they will not beat themselves. That is the most that I am sure of.

Conversely the Jets and their front office have almost communicated a 'Super Bowl or bust' this year with their acquisition of Favre but mostly due to their free agent spending spree. Making all these moves has brought one thing for sure - Pressures of expectations.

What I can easily see happening is that the Jets are not ready for this pressure and they may stumble out of the gate. Favre will not have a strong grasp of the offense which will lead him to trying to make plays the way that he normally does, by ad-libbing. This will be the Jets downfall in week 1, as the Dolphins will play disciplined defense and get some turnovers to make the difference in the game.

What will be interesting is how the Jets respond after their week one defeat, if it happens? What if they go 0-3 to start the year? We will see then what all this high priced talent is made of.

But in any case, the score will be indicative of another hard fought Jets/Phins games that will be worthy of the rivalry.

Dolphins 24 Jets 20

Your reaching, even a Jets fan must know that ESPN is the crap of the sports reporting world and anything they say or write has no more basis than anything I or we say or write. Actually, they are worse. Besides, tied for second means the one that isnt in 2nd is ultimately third right, so in essense, you are tied for 2nd, and or 3rd. I can also understand your penchant for trying to garauntee you will make the playoffs due to historics, however, that means absolutely nothing. Its ironic Jets fans come on here and preach 0-0, but then try to say your a playoff team due to historics. I disagree

We offered him 18, 4 mil is a big difference. you guys overpaid incredibly.

Cheap shot, Coles thought he was a tough guy going across the middle and got laid out. There was nothing that concluded to a cheap shot. Don't hate

there are third stingers in the league on worse teams that have better touchdown totals than Jones. Jones previous seasons on a different team. He goes to the Jets and is not the same impact player.

If you think Leon could start, your in dreamland, I can personally garuantee he is not tough enough, not strong enough to carry the ball 275 - 300 times like most starters.

I cant count how many times i heard Jets fans say Chatman was crap when he was our starter, but now hes with you and he is quality. I dont have to argue this point, his play does it for me.

FYI - Your going tolove his vaunted "spin" move.. only problem is he "spins" the wrong way into defenders easily waiting arms.

Your reaching big time with this entire post

You said everyone thought the jets would be in 3rd or 4th and w/o even tring I showed you two places that had us in 2nd. They listed us above Buff at si.com so I assume they think we win the tiebreakers so that's a 2nd place finish.

Where did i say I guaranteed the Jets would make the playoffs?

less than a mil per year is a huge difference? and rumors were he offered a bigger deal than that.

Coles is a tough guy but it's hard to protect yourself from cheap shots.

Our OL STUNK! We had 4 RB TDs all of last year. That will change I guarantee you. In 2003 Curtis martin had a similar year to TJ last year where he had only 2 rushing TDs all season, the next year he had 12.

When has he ever shown he's not tough enough? I KNOW he'd be an excellent feature back but b/c of his size they try to protect him.

We didn't give a thought to Chatman, he was your #3 RB. Who cares if people aid he stunk? he's OUR #3 RB, not alot is expected of him. If he's playing alot then that's bad news for us. This isn't like the Chad bashing for years until you get him then all of a sudden he becomes better than favre and a great QB.

Hopefully we aren't going to see it, he's going to get very limited carries and if in his limited carries he gives us 4 YPC I'll be thrilled.
