There's noticeable contradiction, or strange viewpoint, on this board. We've got simultaneous threads championing the trade and also optimistic about the type of team we'll field in '08. Minus Jason Taylor we're going to suffer and the win estimates should take that into account. The secondary automatically becomes even more vulnerable, for one thing. You lose a dozen sacks and many other plays with pressure, when the QB had to alter or abandon the intended play.
Parcells said it best months ago, "last time I checked Jason Taylor is a good player." How many guys earn that type of sarcastic understatement? Yeah, I would make the trade. But I've never been as optimistic about '08 as most members of this forum. I suspect Parcells falls closer to my viewpoint than the rah rah fans. When you go 1-15 with one lucky win in a league as mediocre and balanced as this one, that's a devastating indictment of your talent level.

Essentially, if you're our "GM" you're obviously providing not much more than input regarding this decision. Not really surprising though. This just confirms, despite The Tuna's protestations when hiring Ireland, what everyone knows to be fact.
Regardless. a good deal for the Finskins since it successfully addresses both's considerations. As far as JT possibly being happier being dealt to NO, The Giants, or whomever, he has no one to blame but himself by destroying his own marketability short of unanticipated pressing needs. |

'08 will suffer, but I'm more confident in the mgmt nowWhile I agree this move will almost certainly cost us a win or two in 08, it increases my confidence in the competence of the men up top, which in turn gives me more confidence in general that they will turn this ship around sooner rather than later.

I am happy about this trade for two reasons. One: In the long-run this is,hands down, the best move for the long-term interests of the Dolphins. Two: It shows that the Trifecta knows what they are doing and that we should be inclined to trust them a little. By waiting and not giving JT away for a mid-round pick we come out way ahead. Those guys knew something would happen to make JT attractive to a team who would be willing to part with at least a second. For the long-term picture, I love the trade.

We drafted JT in the 3rd round. 11 years later we get a 2nd and a 6th round pick for him. Sounds like a good deal for Miami.

Hell No. We get nothing this year. Zero Zilch. We "might" get a good player but we sure as hell won't see the fruit of this trade till way down the line in time and we didn't improve one bit. Instead, as hard as it is to imagine, a 1-15 team just got worse. And everyone here is happy!?! Yeah, it'll be great watching Jason getting sacks while we have zero pressure on the QB unless we have an all out Blitz.

YESSSSSSSSSSSSSS, matt light and tom brady i am sure brought everyone a round where every they are. I remember in 04 when he single handled kicked them. Even in 06 i remember the 21-0 loss when he had a monster game.
actually, i think i never saw matt light ever play good against him... |

Since I never believed the "I'm only playing one more year talk" from Taylor. And since now his agent and the Redskins are saying he will play out his contract and prossibly sign another contract. And considering the Redskins situation at DE, I think the 2010 sixth round pick coulda/shoulda have been a conditional pick that could have moved up based on playing time and/or performance.
That said though moving an unhappy Taylor was a good move so the coulda, shoulda, woulda's don't really matter at this point. Well done Parcells. As for Jason. Thanks for everything you gave for this team. Hope to be there when they put you in the ring of honor.

This was a move the Dolphins needed to make. They are rebuilding for the future, and JT wouldn't be in Miami for the longterm regardless.

Not to say you are wrong because it does give us more money to spend but weren't we already in a strong position capwise to sign damn near anybody?
