New Feature: Mobile Forums

This is actually something VIP Members have had for a month now. So I guess it's technically "new". But whatever.

We've been talking about this since last year. But we are few, free and can only do so much at a time.

Anyway, we believe that mobile devices are and will continue to become a very large part of the internet.

So for those of you with PDA's, Blackberry's, smartphones, or any other mobile device with a web browser, surf on over to http://www.finheaven.mobi and give her a test drive.

You should be able to login, browse, post, check PMs, use the New Posts feature, etc.

NOTE: It's an intuitive interface. So if you click the link from your PC or laptop, you'll get the normal forums. But from your phone, you'll get something much different.

We're not sure just which devices will and will not work. Most everything should. If you get the normal-looking forums, your device isn't compatible. The good news is, this kind of thing is becoming standard on phones. And internet access is becoming part of a lot of standard phone plans.

Realize this is somewhat of a BETA. Like the rest of the site, it will be a continuous work in progress. But functionality-wise, it's pretty much done. And there will probably be a few things we simply don't bother fixing.

Some of you may ask, "what's so great about that?"

Well, if you're stuck at the airport, in traffic, riding shotgun, bored in class

.....anywhere you have cell phone coverage, you can mosey on over to http://www.finheaven.mobi and surf the forums in a format much more conducive to smaller screens and slower speeds.

I am not a VIP member but have noticed a change in the interface for my phone a few weeks ago. I was going to ask but im lazy. The pages load ALOT faster now and that was a great thing. Loading would take a long time prior due to all the content that is on the site but is no longer on the phone.

It is missing things that the site has but its not a big deal. I will take the fast loading any day. Things missing: dates of post, when i click a thread, i only have the option to click the first page, there is not an option to click page numbers. The expand/collapse quote option does not work. May be others that i am forgetting.

i dont know if this is what this thread is about but i have noticed a change in my phone and it was a great idea. Thanks for the work put in because i can now read threads almost like i am at a tower.

Faster Loading is GREAT!!!

I'll address these individually.

Missing dates of posts: intentional

No page numbers in threads: I have page numbers on my phone. We intend for you to see them. What model phone do you have?

Expand/collapse quote: We didn't intend for that to show up. I don't see it on my Sprint Pocket PC.

Since this is a relatively new technology, things will probably look different on some phones. It will be a work in progress as I mentioned. But we felt comfortable enough to release it to the masses as is.

Wasnt clear enough. Before you open a thread, there is not an option to go to any page, only the first. When you open the thread, you can go to any of the pages. Sorry

I have a Sprint Audiovox PDA.

THe arrow is there to expand/collapse but it does not work. Not a big deal at all, i was only mentioning.

i dont have any issues with this feature, it is great and glad you guys did it

Hmm. I see all 22 pages at the top and bottom of the forum. I have a similar Sprint Audiovox phone.

I would have to pay for internet use on my phone so right now I won't be able to use this feature.

I have the older version of this phone. Are you saying that when you are in a forum, you can choose which page you want to view?

Could be my phone or i need some new glasses...

The site works but I can't log in at all. I have a Motorola RAZR and the screen & login box is too small for me to input my user name properly.

I'm using a Spring TREO 650 and can't log on. I've entered my username and password to the point where it's locked me out? However, the page that downloaded looked the same. Does anyone know if this is compatible with TREO's or not?

Yes, I can choose whichever page I want.

I'm wondering if there might be a firmware upgrade available for your phone (which would likely upgrade your browser).

Hmm. I'm pretty sure that's a Palm OS.

If you're seeing the same page you see on your PC, you're not seeing the mobile format.

You could try this updater to see if there's any upgrades for you: http://www.palm.com/us/support/downl...er/sprint.html
