Browns Offer Anderson Three-Year Deal

http://www.dispatch.com/live/content...T.html?sid=101

Quote:
The Cleveland Browns have opened negotiations with quarterback Derek Anderson by offering him a three-year contract, a source told The Dispatch yesterday. It is likely the first of many proposals as the sides attempt to reach an agreement before NFL free agency begins Feb. 29.

The amount of the offer was not known.
Anderson, who will be a restricted free agent, threw for 3,787 yards and 29 touchdowns in his first season as a starter. The Browns went 10-5 with him starting, and he became a Pro Bowl alternate.

My take is since it is a three year deal the Browns obviously still want Quinn to be their Franchise QB. I think the Browns just want Anderson becuase he gives the Browns a better chance to win now.

Brady Quinn can't be happy. His contract is full of incentives. If he doesn't play, he doesn't get paid much. I wonder how long it'll be before he becomes vocal.

And you have to think if the Browns and Anderson are on a roll next year with Quinn unhappy, who knows how low his trade value could get. This could be interesting to see how this all plays out.

this is very interesting indeed. it kind of makes me wonder if the browns maybe regret all theyve done to get quinn last year after the emergence of anderson. but really, this is a strange story i think based on the fact that quinn is supposed to be the franchise guy there... going into his second year now as "amazing" as he was supposed to be and he's still going to start off the season as a backup? or will anderson? but if so... why tie up the money he's probably going to get for a backup? and i guess that question holds true if both players stay on the roster.... strange indeed. especially for a team that has been talentless for so long... now they don't know what to do with it!

By giving Anderson only a 3 year contract, tells me the Browns braintrust believe that Quinn is their future. IMO, if they were serious in keeping him as their franchise qb, a 4-6 year contract would be in order here....All I hope for is that DA doesn't find his way anyway near the Dolphins!

The Cleveland Browns and quarterback Derek Anderson are at least two years apart in contract negotiations, a source told The Dispatch yesterday.

The Browns opened negotiations last week by offering Anderson a three-year deal, but Anderson's representation is seeking a longer term, about five years. The sides hope to reach a deal before free agency opens Feb. 29.
