I think given the nature of his injuries.. and the consequences that would occur from exaserbating it, this is a good move. I wish Zach would pay atention.

my wife is a big bucs fan. i enjoyed watching him run but to tell the truth we both thought he retired last year. well wishes to him and family.

Gruden really wasted the last 5 years of his career. Gruden is obsessed with speed everywhere, and Alstott never fit into his vision. Alstott obviously didn't like it, but what could he do?

334 carries in 66 games under Gruden. 5 carries/game
1,025 carries in 92 games under Dungy. 11 carries/game

44 percent of those carries under Gruden came in 2002, Gruden's first season in Tampa. From '03-'06, he got 3.8 carries/game.

If he'd have spent his career somewhere like Pittsburgh, he'd be even more celebrated league-wide. Regardless, he's a beloved in Tampa. One of the team's all-time most popular players.

Trivia: Alstott caught a whopping 65 passes his rookie year.

He was on injured reserve last season. He's also been talking about retirement for 3-4 years now because of injuries. Thats probably why you thought that.
I'm gonna miss watching him although his role was never the same once Gruden came aboard. Still, Alstott has to be one of, if not the most productive FB ever. I'm glad he's getting out before he gets further injury and I always like it when players play their entire career for one team.

you are correct..i had forgotten he went on ir early this season. it is a shame that talent was wasted. it slightly reminds me of konrad..good fullback that wasn't used enough when healthy but always hurting from something or another..the guy couldn't shake a staff infection with a stick..unfortunate.

Alstott will go down as one of the last great true Fullbacks. It seems like more and more teams are switching to the TE/FB Hybrid. Alstott had a great run, but was constantly misused by Gruden & co. in his last few years.

I know. I was upset when Mack Strong retired and now this. It will be a sad day when Lorenzo Neal calls it quits.

This was going to be my point. He is the last oldschool fullback type back left in todays NFL. A Larry Csonka type guy who could block and carry the Rock. In 1999, he filled in when Warrick Dunn (I believe it was Dunn) got hurt and almost ran for 1000 yards. He finished the season with 949 yards. It could be considered nothing but an asset to have a versatile leader like Alstott on a football team.

What do you think are his chances of reaching the HOF as a Fullback???

I deffinitely think he should get in. He has had a great career. I am not sure of his chances as he is a fullback lol how many fullbacks are in the HOF?

According to this list there where 9 guys with FB next to their name. One of them was Jim Brown and one was Larry Csonka who probably wouldnt be considered a true fullbacks.

He was a load to bring down. When he got moving it was hard to tackle him.

Personally I think that injuries and misuse keep him out of the Hall. He only played for 12 years and of that, only had 6 really good years. I like Alstott a lot, but I don't see Hall voters putting him in.
