Bush holding out the season?

Quote:
No. 2 overall pick and Heisman Trophy-winning running back Reggie Bush not only appears headed for a holdout with the New Orleans Saints, a league source said Bush is toying with the idea of sitting out the entire season and going back in the draft in 2007 if he doesn't get his price.
I doubt he would, but he has 5 million in the bank so he wouldn't have much to worry about financially if he did sit out. So much for his agent doing everything to make sure he's in camp on time.

He shouldn't be getting any more than what Ronnie Brown got last year (both running backs selected with the 2nd pick overall) if he's asking for more then he's NUTS. Sure, Bush is as talented as it gets, but he has yet to prove he's an every down back.

Also, I know he is just messing around about the "sitting out for the season" crap, because if he was smart, that wouldn't work (also, the Saints aren't as dumb as he may think they are):

1. His stock will drop tremendously after a year absence from football.
2. Wasn't there talks during the season about the NFL coming up with a new rule for Rookie contracts that limits what they earn in their first few years that may even be installed for the 2007 draft?

Yeah, nice bluff.

I'm sick of players doing this. the man has yet to step one foot on an NFL field on gameday and he may hold out for a year that is pure B.S.

The NFL IMO needs to crack down on this. If a player is offered a legit contract compairable to last years pick and/or the draft pick around. then if the player decides to hold out a year he should not be allowed to reenter the draft that team should be allowed to hold his rights and be allowed to drastically reduce the contract offer.

If bush does hold out i hope he loses his current endoursment deals and he turns into a clarett clone.

For some reason, I thought that Reggie Bush would be the last person in the draft to hold out. Apparently, I was wrong.

Bush may be put in the Phillip Rivers situation. He will most likely miss a lot of Training camp, and the veteran (Deuce McCallister) will have a big season and Bush will realize he has made a mistake.

Nah, not comparable to the Rivers situation because Bush is gonna be a definite stud in the NFL, Rivers and pretty much all QB's not named Manning are gambles. There is too many things u can do with Reggie to leave him on the bench even if Deuce runs for 2000 yards this year.

I mean Reggie wants to get supreme value for what he is worth, this is a business . . however I mean if he wants top pick money he needs to forget about it, just because u could have been the top pick, doesn't mean u get top pick money. Start with Ronnie's contract from last year, give him a little more because of the increased cap, and thats it. Reggie is great, he is not god tho. And teams can't give in to crap like this.

this whole situation is comparable to Aaron Rodgers holding out for #1 overall money because at one point he was considered the top prospect.

He was the number 2 pick. Take #2 money and move on.

I was one of the people who never questioned the Texans decision, but I guarantee fearing Bush would not get the contract he wants and the fear of him holding out and the fact they agreed with Williams before picking him was a huge reason why they took Williams over Bush.

At the end, I think eventually the Saints will give in and give him a comparable contract to Super Mario, probably with a million or 2 less in guarantees.

I doubt it would happen, even though it is possible.

From a career standpoint, it would be harmful. He'd certainly still be a high pick next season if he went back into the draft, but he would likely drop a few places, and I'm sure a few teams would question the prospects of somebody who had taken a full year off from playing football. Not to mention the fact that the team will be apprehensive about him pulling the same again.

I don't know that it would be harmful enough to drive him away from doing it, however. He'd still have a lot of suitors.
