Chargers get 11.5 million dollar cap relief,

Moderator's Warning:
Please keep threads in the correct forum

Basically they get this because of a contract for (Shaun Rogers, I believe) in a contract that gives them relief if the player doesn't reach incentives set forth in his contract and if there is an uncapped salary cap, which appears there is at this time. In other words, D.Brees could easily be retained in light of their new found fortune. Got the info from NFL network Adam Shefter. Not good news for those of us wanting to get D.Brees.

Yeah thats Detriot. San Deigo already is under the cap by around 17 million I believe....could have been 7 mill. I dont remember. Regardless San Deigo had plenty of room to re-sign him.

Confirmed: San Deigo 17 under the cap. Link: http://www.nfl.com/nflnetwork/story/9261946

brees would be a fool to play in detroit for any amount of money. He will be a fin for less money than detroit would be willing to pay

Even if this weres the case for SD ... they really wouldn't plan on keeping him long term ..

They'd try the sign and trade routine - so that they would get some compensation for him ...

Either way ... DET getting a break doesn't affect our chances in the big picure. I just don't see BREES going there - unless they just overwhelm him with a contract that you just couldn't pass up !!!

Bad news bro, Shaun Rodgers plays for Detroit.. Therefore they can not "retain" Brees because Brees doesn't play for them.

i wouldnt either, but then look at the recievers he would have there, Mike Williams, Roy Williams. Charles Rogers and i believe they have Marcus Pollard at Tight End...idk though because their offensive line isnt the best and their a mess there, id pick miami in a close one but anythign can happen

I think the real battle for Brees will be us and the Chargers. If Chargers gives him a big contract, then we should just go on and find another QB because he will pick them over us. Our fate to get Brees will be in the Chargers hands.

Precisely why I think he will re-sign with SD. They have the cap room. he wants to be there. It's just a matter of egos. I just can't see them letting Drew walk. My guess is that he'll be signed Thursday unfortunately.

However it is nice to see so many optimists here instead of the usual "sky is falling" mentality.
