Chiefs let Turley, Knight goK.C. hopes to get younger, cuts lineman, safety
The Kansas City Chiefs have released veteran safety Sammy Knight and offensive lineman Kyle Turley, moves that were not unexpected as the team seeks to get younger. Coach Herm Edwards said this week there could be as many as 20 new faces on his second Chiefs team this fall. Knight, 31, started every game after being signed as a free agent two years ago. The other incumbent starting safety, Greg Wesley, may have trouble holding onto his job as well. The Chiefs were pleased with the development last year of rookie safeties Bernard Pollard and Jarrad Page. Turley, a former Pro Bowler, had no luck last season in attempting a comeback after a two-year absence brought on by back surgery. The back gave him trouble in the last half of the season and he started only seven games.
