How many successfull WR are there that were drafted high?

I started thinking about this today with the Koren Robinson signing. I am wondering if there are alot of high first round picks that turn out to be good WRs? Just off the top of my head most of them are not picked that high.

Now some of these are young but as of right now they havent really met expectations.

I don't know if this really proves anything but there seems to be alot of first round disappointments in the NFL. Also alot of the WR that were picked in the first round that have turned out good so far were not even picked that high. Moss 21, Harrison 19, Moulds 24, Wayne 30, Walker 20, Clayton was 15 but was also the 5th WR taken.

But with the exception of Andre Johnson, Holt none of the other WR taken high have met expectations. It is still early for guys like Larry Fitzgerald but he didn't really do as well as Arizona fans would have hoped. I still think he will be great but as of right now he hasn't met his expectations. Even though a guy like Keyshawn has been a solid player throughout his career, he is hardly what you expect out of the number 1 pick overall.

owens had 1 1000 yard season in his first 4 years, steve smith has had 1 1000 yard season in his 4 years in the league, jimmy smith has his first 1000 yard season his 5th season in the league, muhammed has only had 3 1000 yard seasons in his 10 year career, coles needed 3 years for his 1st 1000 yarder, chambers hasn'te ven had one, hines ward needed his 4th year to hit 1003 yards that season... etc

my point is recievers usually need time to develop into something good, and most of those high first round ones you have on there are young players... also the players who show who were drafted later you have as good, then call someone like reggie williams a first round disappointment eventhough hes 1 year into the league, and plaxico burress who had 2 1000 yard seasons his first 3 years... and ashley lelie who already had a 1000 yard season going into his 4th one...

i see the point your trying to make and i think people have talked about it before that a lot of times the high round draft pick WRs haven't panned out, but i still think its worth the risk of those high propect WRs, and i think its just as much of a risk as any other position really...

like I said about reggie williams and others, they are too young to tell. I used Larry Fitzgerald as the example but it pretty much applied to all the young ones.

Also in truth I don't really know if I had a point. I just found it interesting and thought I would share.

Got mixed up.

Galloway had 3 1000 yard seasons. I would never say he has lived up to expectations. You could say he had 5 1000 yard seasons with a couple of 900 yarders. But he has never got over 1100 yards in a season. Good for alot of WR careers but like I said I dont think he ever lived up to the hype.

Is Eddie Kennison really that good. Or was he just on good teams. I mean he plays for the Chiefs now. Is that really the reason for his re-emerging? Just because the guy is a serviceable WR in the NFL does not mean he was successfull. Would anybody choose him as their number 1 option or even number 2? I think you expect a number 1 or 2 option out of a draft pick that high.

Like I already said about Reggie Williams was he is too early to tell. I am not even saying I think he will be a bust.

Boston is a bust. Ask the Chargers? Ask us even? He is playing 3rd string. I am not saying he won't ever be good but he has been a bust. His was more of physical problems though and not skill or mental.

Your right about Morton, I forgot how good he used to be with the Lions. How did Herman Moore set most receptions record playing for that team anyways?!?

But like I said. I didnt really have a point to make. This thread was either just to give people some info I found when I looked around or also to see what people thought if being a first round pick for a WR was not necessarily a good thing.
I never intended this thread to be about who is a bust and who isnt. That can be so subjective. If a guy is a quality starter for you but you drafted him 5th overall, is he a bust? Some would say as long as the guy plays he is not a bust. Other define bust as not meeting expectations. I always hated the term bust, just because people tend to apply it too early and throw it around too loosely.

Draft is a gamble, a crap shoot. Always has been and always will be. Just because a player is drafted high doesn't mean they will be successful in the NFL. This is true of all positions, anyone remember a QB Akili Smith .
