Info on Philip River's contract situationRivers is in the second year of a six-year contract for $41 million with $14.5 million guaranteed.
Bonuses So far, Philip Rivers received an initial signing bonus of $7.65M in 2004, a roster bonus of $1.075M in 2004, and an option bonus of $6.625M in 2005. So that's $7.65M to be prorated over six years, and $6.625M to be prorated over five years. (The signing bonus and option bonus are prorated, but the entire roster bonus counts in the year it is earned.) Rivers can also earn a $2.375M bonus based on playing time, and a $500K bonus based on passing yards. The Chargers can also reinstate any voided years by paying a "buy-back" bonus of $4.875 million. Salary Rivers' base salaries: Rivers base salaries: 2004 -- $230,000 2005 -- $305,000 2006 -- $615,000 2007 -- $940,000 2008 -- $1,265,000 2009 -- $1,590,000 2010 -- $1,915,000 Rivers' cap numbers if he remains a Charger 2004 -- $2.58M 2005 -- $2.905M 2006 -- $3.215M 2007 -- $3.54M 2008 -- $3.865M 2009 -- $4.19M 2010 -- $1.915M (voidable) Chargers' cap hit if Rivers is traded $2.55M of the signing bonus and $1.325M of the option bonus have already been counted against the cap, which leaves $5.1M of the signing bonus and $5.3M of the option bonus that would be counted in the event of a trade. The Chargers would therefore take a cap hit of $10.4M in 2006 for trading Rivers before June 1. (If he is traded after June 1, the $10.4M would be divided equally between 2006 and 2007.) [Note: I am assuming the performance bonuses and "buy-back" bonus will not be due in the event of a trade, but I don't know that for sure. It depends on what the contract says.]

I think he will go to the Jets, unless if they get the oppertunity to draft Leinhart. |

Thanks. Doesn't seem like Miami is interested in him though...
