I'm not saying the Patriots did win because of the fix, but I think those who do say that will agree that the team was pretty good. Their issue is that they weren't the best.

Honestly speaking, I've considered this quite a few times. The Patriots winning the SB right after 9/11 was what really made me begin considering the issue.......
The Saints seemed to get bailed out've everything tonight. Absolutely everything. Sad thing is - put that team in the AFC and they're 9-7, 8-8. They're now playing for a chance at going to the Super Bowl. The NFC in general is probably more pathetic than the refs or anything of that nature.

It is strangeHard to see anything fishy in todays game, except Westbrook dropping 3 passes. But the "tuck" play killed the Raiders against the Patsys that year, and I don't like the Raiders but they got screwed on that one. One question though. The Eagles went on 4th and 10, and made it except for the false start. So why punt on 4th and 15? It's like they gave up.

I agree the NFL is not rigged but ur wrong that it would be the Jets or Giants. The New England "Patriots" think about it...

The owners would not go for this kind of stuff unless the league was paying them some serious money.
You do realize how much income is brought in by going to and winning a Super Bowl right? For, say, Philly to give that up by intentionally losing to the Saints the owner would have to be paid quite a boatload of cash to make up for it. HOWEVER! i DO think that some non-football issues can be a huge inspiration and factor. The whole Katrina thing for instance. The Saints felt like they needed to help out that city, and the best way was to win, so they are winning! They are on a mission. Wasnt that part of why Brees started seriously talking with them in the first place? He felt the city needed help, needed a Hero, and he thought he could be that kind of person.

Nice post. The conspiracy stuff is ridiculous but the points you brought up are right on. Being able to build a rallying cry and entice F.A.'s to your team using the rebirth of a city/team after a catastrophe is a valid point.

Rigged? No. Is there possibly some money flying around? Possibly.
You can't deny some stuff..look at last years SB and even some Patriots playoff games the past few years where a blinde man could make some calls on those plays. It was funny though how all of a sudden after the Pats when 2 superbowls the rules finally get changed. I dunno.. |

Also if these conspiracy theories were true then the Dolphins should have won the Superbowl in the 93-94 season the year that Hurruicane Andrew hit. Quote:
South Park was right, 1/4 of the population is apprently mentally challenged. Also name one sport in which the officiating isn't bad.

Reggie Bush is not the reason the Saints are where they are. Drew Brees and Marques Colston are the two main reasons. Devery Henderson is pretty good as well. He hasn't done much and was barely on the radar for rookie of the year - hardly what you would expect from "the most electrifying player, the next Gale Sayers, blah, blah, blah..." People mention last year's Super Bowl because it was a bad game. The one bad call was the "low block" call on Hasselbeck that didn't matter. Other than that, both teams played poorly, but Pittsburgh won on the strength of two big plays - Parker's run and the Randle El trick pass. Outside of that the game was a case study in bad football, so it became natural to look for other things (like bad officiating). Any time anybody even thinks about bad officiating they're going to see it. |

i wonder how those guys come up with the point spread? some of them come so close or right on you have to wonder if its rigged or not. i have to admit they do have skill to come up with a point spread so close, then again do they? this is what i wonder.

I guess the Saints could'nt win this year. They lose, and well....they lose. They win, and the NFL was behind it. Get a life. Worst to first happens ALL THE TIME in the NFL. In fact, there was a team in 1999 that went 3-13 that went 10-6 in 2000 and won their first playoff game before bowing out in the divisional playoffs. Who was that team? New Orleans Saints. Game. Set. Match.
