They won those after an off 2002.

I'm not saying the Patriots did win because of the fix, but I think those who do say that will agree that the team was pretty good. Their issue is that they weren't the best.

Honestly speaking, I've considered this quite a few times. The Patriots winning the SB right after 9/11 was what really made me begin considering the issue.......

The Saints seemed to get bailed out've everything tonight. Absolutely everything.

Sad thing is - put that team in the AFC and they're 9-7, 8-8. They're now playing for a chance at going to the Super Bowl. The NFC in general is probably more pathetic than the refs or anything of that nature.

It is strange

Hard to see anything fishy in todays game, except Westbrook dropping 3 passes. But the "tuck" play killed the Raiders against the Patsys that year, and I don't like the Raiders but they got screwed on that one. One question though. The Eagles went on 4th and 10, and made it except for the false start. So why punt on 4th and 15? It's like they gave up.

I agree the NFL is not rigged but ur wrong that it would be the Jets or Giants. The New England "Patriots" think about it...

I think that's the glaring weakness of the west coast offense. There probably aren't any plays in the playbook that they can rely on to get that sort of yardage. That's why I think they punted.

The owners would not go for this kind of stuff unless the league was paying them some serious money.
You do realize how much income is brought in by going to and winning a Super Bowl right? For, say, Philly to give that up by intentionally losing to the Saints the owner would have to be paid quite a boatload of cash to make up for it.

HOWEVER! i DO think that some non-football issues can be a huge inspiration and factor. The whole Katrina thing for instance. The Saints felt like they needed to help out that city, and the best way was to win, so they are winning! They are on a mission. Wasnt that part of why Brees started seriously talking with them in the first place? He felt the city needed help, needed a Hero, and he thought he could be that kind of person.

Nice post.

The conspiracy stuff is ridiculous but the points you brought up are right on.

Being able to build a rallying cry and entice F.A.'s to your team using the rebirth of a city/team after a catastrophe is a valid point.

Rigged? No. Is there possibly some money flying around? Possibly.

You can't deny some stuff..look at last years SB and even some Patriots playoff games the past few years where a blinde man could make some calls on those plays. It was funny though how all of a sudden after the Pats when 2 superbowls the rules finally get changed. I dunno..

you people dont see it. the draft debacle and how the Texans passed on BUSH. They were paid off by the nfl or the saints so that the most electrifying player in college could come rejuvenate that city. ITS SO OBVIOUS
Reggie Bush has not done **** this year.

Also if these conspiracy theories were true then the Dolphins should have won the Superbowl in the 93-94 season the year that Hurruicane Andrew hit.

The Pats were down just like America, but they overcame and won it all.

They are the only team to fly the colors of the USA. They are the Patriots afterall.
OK the Bills Giants, Texans and Tixans alll have the colors red white and blue.

South Park was right, 1/4 of the population is apprently mentally challenged.

Also name one sport in which the officiating isn't bad.

The Bills and Texans specifically have the colors of the flag. However, the Texans didn't come around until 2002.

Reggie Bush is not the reason the Saints are where they are. Drew Brees and Marques Colston are the two main reasons. Devery Henderson is pretty good as well. He hasn't done much and was barely on the radar for rookie of the year - hardly what you would expect from "the most electrifying player, the next Gale Sayers, blah, blah, blah..."

People mention last year's Super Bowl because it was a bad game. The one bad call was the "low block" call on Hasselbeck that didn't matter. Other than that, both teams played poorly, but Pittsburgh won on the strength of two big plays - Parker's run and the Randle El trick pass. Outside of that the game was a case study in bad football, so it became natural to look for other things (like bad officiating). Any time anybody even thinks about bad officiating they're going to see it.

It's not going to make the Lions into a Super Bowl champion, much less a playoff team. It might make an 8-8 team just good enough to make the playoffs or a wild card team that also has a good bit of luck a Super Bowl champion. Even if they were doing this, I can't imagine it would stay secret over a 5+ year period.

My guess is that the biggest real bias comes in scheduling. You can't call what the league did for the Giants in 2005 anything other than giving them a hand up. You also can't tell me that the league is above playing favorites in handing out byes and determining who gets terrible away-home-away scheduling. I don't think that's exactly what could be called fixing things, though.
It's always hard to determine scheduling though because the teams are determined years in advance. It's hard to tell what teams will be good at any given time -- two years ago, the Bears sucked. Last year the Saints sucked. The freakin' Browns could be super bowl contenders next year with the way the league works, so I don't think any scheduling bias could be enforced too successfully.

i wonder how those guys come up with the point spread? some of them come so close or right on you have to wonder if its rigged or not. i have to admit they do have skill to come up with a point spread so close, then again do they? this is what i wonder.

I guess im just not belieiving the feel good story of the year for the NFL.

I think that somewhere the nfl is rigging all this so that they win.

YOU WATCH
What a surprise, the conspiracy theories abound.

I guess the Saints could'nt win this year. They lose, and well....they lose. They win, and the NFL was behind it.

Get a life. Worst to first happens ALL THE TIME in the NFL.

In fact, there was a team in 1999 that went 3-13 that went 10-6 in 2000 and won their first playoff game before bowing out in the divisional playoffs.

Who was that team?

New Orleans Saints. Game. Set. Match.
