Joey Porter played eight seasons with the Steelers.

â€œItâ€™s a business decision that was made,â€ Steelers spokesman Dave Lockett said.

Director of Football Operations Kevin Colbert said the salary cap was the reason Porter was cut.

Releasing Porter allows the Steelers to get under the NFLâ€™s $109 million salary cap by Friday, when the free agent signing period begins.

I don't mind him. He will get picked up quick. I can't believe the steelers didnt keep him. He wasen't costing them that much. And Tomlin is a D kind of guy. You'd think he'd want a guy like Porter to have as the center of the D

It's been a few days and I still do not have a good understanding of why Pittsburgh released him. My only guess is for financial reasons but I had not heard about Pittsburgh asking him to restructure. No signs whatsoever of this coming, strange.
