Kelly signed 7 yr deal, stroud to seek tradeRaiders signed DL Tommy Kelly to a seven-year, $50.5 million contract. The deal includes $18.125 in guarantees and $25.125 million in the first three years.
The contract makes him the highest-paid tackle in the NFL - not a bad deal for someone who is coming off a torn ACL. Kelly, who proved an effective run stopper while playing end, is scheduled to replace Warren Sapp inside this year. Kelly would have been one of the top linemen available, further thinning out the market. Source: espn.com also STroud from JAGS is allowed to seek a trade.

how can a player that noone has really heard of become the highest paid DT in NFL history?
Can you immagin how much Haynesworth and C. Williams will be getting paid in a few days?

This really is a head scratcher. I know Sapp retired so I'm wondering if this is a panic move because they might miss out on Dorsey or Ellis... or maybe they are showing there hand and want to draft DMC now that they don't need a DT as much.

or what about tommy harris next year. they are going to keep breaking the record for 'highest paid player at a certian position' teams need to be smarter and realize that a player can only be worth so much. I understand that teams want to keep the talent within the franchise but still.... this is bad news for ALL teams in the NFL. on a another note, i would like to bring stroud in but not to sure if he would fit in the 3-4 would he??

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tommy_Kelly Interesting Note: "However, the 2006 season came and went without those hopes and dreams of greatness being realized. Tommy Kelly only managed a meager 3.5 sacks, the lowest total of his professional career. This was not what was expected. He had received consistent playing time all season and he was playing the interior line, the spot where his pass rushing skills were his strength. Not only did he fail to reach the QB as many times as hoped, but Kelly also looked weak at the point of attack-many times being pushed backward on running plays. Much of the Raiders' woes against the run were, in fact, blamed on Kelly." BUT "It should be stated, however, that Kelly was greatly miscast in his new role in the 2006 season. A much overlooked factor in the 2006 Raiders' season was the loss of massive nose tackle Ted Washington. When Tommy Kelly had previously experienced success, it was playing as an undertackle--a 3-technique defender that Warren Sapp plays so effectively. However, with Washington's defection to the Cleveland Browns, Kelly was thrust into a role as the nose tackle. At 6'6" and 300 lb, he was greatly miscast for such a role." |

Lol really makes you wonder whats going on in that organization and is he really that good. I mean I know who he is but I never looked at him as that big of an impact on that team or any team really. I thought of him as a role player.
