Raiders signed DL Tommy Kelly to a seven-year, $50.5 million contract. The deal includes $18.125 in guarantees and $25.125 million in the first three years.
The contract makes him the highest-paid tackle in the NFL - not a bad deal for someone who is coming off a torn ACL. Kelly, who proved an effective run stopper while playing end, is scheduled to replace Warren Sapp inside this year. Kelly would have been one of the top linemen available, further thinning out the market.

how can a player that noone has really heard of become the highest paid DT in NFL history?

Can you immagin how much Haynesworth and C. Williams will be getting paid in a few days?

This really is a head scratcher. I know Sapp retired so I'm wondering if this is a panic move because they might miss out on Dorsey or Ellis... or maybe they are showing there hand and want to draft DMC now that they don't need a DT as much.

or what about tommy harris next year. they are going to keep breaking the record for 'highest paid player at a certian position' teams need to be smarter and realize that a player can only be worth so much. I understand that teams want to keep the talent within the franchise but still.... this is bad news for ALL teams in the NFL.

on a another note, i would like to bring stroud in but not to sure if he would fit in the 3-4 would he??

Nope. No notable career achievements according to wikipedia. His career high in sacks is 4.5 and three of those came in one game against Trent Green and the Kansas City Chiefs in 2005. That's a impressive number for a DT I think. Undrafted player out of Miss. State. Pretty monster though, 6'6 300 lbs. Hes 27 years old.

This guy must have the best agent in the world, or al davis must really love him

Lol really makes you wonder whats going on in that organization and is he really that good. I mean I know who he is but I never looked at him as that big of an impact on that team or any team really. I thought of him as a role player.
