Merged: Fassel Top Candidate for 'Skins HC Job/expected to be named HC

Quote:
Former Giants Coach is a Top Candidate:

Former New York Giants coach Jim Fassel has interviewed twice for the Washington Redskins' vacant head coaching position, according to league sources, and has become a leading candidate to get the position. Fassel completed his last interview Monday and flew back to his home in Arizona, sources said, and he and Gregg Williams, the Redskins' assistant head coach-defense, are the only people to meet with owner Daniel Snyder more than once. Fassel, who was on the verge of getting the Redskins' job in 2004 before Snyder hired Joe Gibbs, was impressive in his interviews both at that time and during this round of talks, leading some league sources to expect he could be named coach as soon as today. Williams, who has been strongly endorsed by coaches and players, was seen by agents and executives around the league as the front-runner for the position, but there has been some pause by ownership since he last was interviewed a week ago. In the interim, Fassel has gotten a second interview.
Source
I personally think this would be a solid hire, I've been waiting for Fassel to get another shot.

Yeah, he is very Cam like, but changed and got better. The Raven gig hurt him, but I think that was more Billick than him.

And Jim Zorn OC which should be an interesting mix sonce Fassel likes to call his own plays. Remember he took the play calling away from Sean Payton while at the Giants.

So far most of the locals here aren't liking the idea of Fassel being the next coach

Redskins are in Cap Purgatory though, a rough way to start a Coaching tenure.

Fassel was an "okay" HC, Williams wasn't even a good HC.

Yea noone around here like the idea of Fassel. I really feel for jason campbell, this is gonna be his like 8th different coaching staff in 9 years back to HS. poor kid, id hate to learn that many different systems.

Also, the players arent going to like them giving Williams the cold shoulder. Snyder all but guarenteed he would get the job after gibbs was gone. Rex Ryan would be a good hire as the DC but Zorn and Fassel i think are the wrong choices
