Mooch Fired? In case anyone cares, it's all over the local news here that there are reports that Mooch has been fired as the Lions HC.
There's a PC expected soon between Mooch and the local media, and it's expected it is to announce his firing/resignation. Dick Jauron is expected to become the new Interim HC. I think this will be the first coaching casualty of the year.

Lions | Mariucci firedMon, 28 Nov 2005 09:05:32 -0800 <A href="http://www.kffl.com/link/14">Jay Glazer, of FOXSports.com, reports the Detroit Lions have fired head coach Steve Mariucci. It was widely speculated Mariucci would be let go by the team following their embarrassing loss to the Atlanta Falcons on Thanksgiving Day. The team has dropped four of their last five games and Mariucci was 15-28 during his two-plus years with the Lions. He has two more seasons left on his five-year, $25 million contract.

Mooch was doing some silly things with the lineups, Start Harrington, then put in Garcia next game start Garcia and put in Harrington, make up your mind. However I agree Matt Millen should be on the block also.

It's a result-driven occupation.....no results, no job.
He had plenty of time to turn that team around......but didn't. Of course it's not all his fault....but that never matters. Head coach doesn't win, head coach gets fired. |

Millen has done a horrible job of providing Mooch with the talent needed to win. Why Mooch was fired and not Millen is beyond me. Mooch is a better coach than his record in Detroit indicates.

If Mooch hates Harrington so much I would speculate that he has a good reason before I speculated that he hates him for erroneous reasons.

Millen has given Mooch some talent to work with through the draft (though drafting WR 3 straight years was stupid). It's not like Millen is going out and signing scrubs either (Bly has been a beast for them, Kennedy has done well, Woody, etc.)
The biggest problem is the Lions are a young team, and they need discipline ala us with Wanny(though we weren't a young team). And as ch19079 said, Mooch never liked Harrington. Never trusted him, and never opened up the playbook for him. Also, when you've got a runningback like Kevin Jones, who is healthy, why give the ball to Bryson and Pinner more? |
