Merged: Senator Specter wants Spygate answersSen. Specter wants 'Spygate' answers from NFL
http://blogs.usatoday.com/sportsscop...ecter-wan.html NFL commissioner Roger Goodell gives his State of NFL address today. Should be a good one. Not only is a potential labor dispute up for discussion, "Spygate" will be a topic, too. Sen. Arlen Specter (R-Pa.) wants Goodell "to explain why the league destroyed evidence related to spying by the New England Patriots," according to The New York Times. "That requires an explanation," Specter said. "The N.F.L. has a very preferred status in our country with their antitrust exemption. The American people are entitled to be sure about the integrity of the game. It's analogous to the C.I.A. destruction of tapes. Or any time you have records destroyed." There seems to be a disagreement between Specter and the league office, too. Specter says he sent the league two letters about "Spygate." The league says it didn't receive the letters until last week. The NFL's Joe Browne said the league has been in contact with Specter's office "several times in recent weeks" and "the issue of these letters was not discussed," the Times reported. Specter said that was "untrue." "It's the same old story," Mr. Specter said. "What you did is never as important as the cover-up. This sequence raises more concerns and doubts."

Senate wants to investigate Pats, NFLHey guys, big story in the new york times and is on PFT today, that arlen specter wants to investigate whey the NFL destroyed the pats evidence without disclosing its findings with the fans, sounds like something was brushed under the carpet earlier this year about spygate, the article link was found on PFT.com today, i dont know how to post a link or i would, this is a huge blemish on the pats this year and past seasons

My god I thought this guy was dead. I'm serious. To be honest though is this really gonna amount to anything? What will Specter do, take the SB trophy away if they win?

This is eerily similar to the Count of Monte Cristo. Burned evidence in a coruption scandal...............next there will be floggings.

did anyone else notice how the Patriot's hardly had holding called against them this year? it's not like they are doing it less. just seems the NFL needed a really good franchise story to restore faith in a league with people like Mike Vick and Pacman. What better way to restore faith then to rig an entire season? this is taking nothin away from the Pats, as I'm sure with their talent they would have still won the Super Bowl, and probably only lost one or two games, but those one or two games make a big difference

What if the NFL found evidence the Pats had been cheating since Bill got there? What if they didn't want to embarass the NFL, and deal with the hassle of some fans demanding those SB trophies be taken away from the Pats? It would cast doubt on EVERY big NFL game played from here on out, and be a HUGE PR nightmare. Much easier to destroy the evidence, slap the Pats on the wrist, and move on. I do wonder WHAT was on the tapes though, and why they needed to be destroyed, versus just showing the world what the Pats did that was so wrong.

specter states that the league could be quilty of obstruction of justice by burning the tapes becuase it was evidence in a cheating scandal, this is serious stuff guys, this puts a permanent blemish on the league and this pats season

there could be serious criminal issues here and no one is talking about it at the super bowl or in the media, they just want it to go away and it wont

i hope something comes out of this.
if u guys watched the Ravens game (Patriots/Ravens), its OBVIOUS the game is rigged. the Ravens had that game WON, but 3 stupid penalties lost them the game....including the timeout that Rex Ryan called AFTER the play was over. if the play is already over, i dont see how the refs could say "oh no the DC called a timeout before the play." plus the defensive holding calls in the endzone, which if u ask me, were NOT holding AT ALL. it does seem like the Pats had their season given to them. also, like they KNEW what play the other team was calling. and the fact that there was rarely many penalties against them.

the only reason to sweep this under the carpet is because something was done to fracture the integrity of the games they played and what they have accomplished, this is a very serious problem now
