Michael Irvin

You know, reading everything in the news lately about Michael Irvin makes me wonder something. Why hasn't ESPN let Irvin go?

I know that it's comparing apples to oranges, but ESPN dropped Rush Limbaugh like a hot potato following his comments about Donovan McNabb without any due process or any opportunity to explain himself. Rush Limbaugh's remarks were not condusive to ESPN desired image, so they fired him.

Michael Irvin has been given every benefit of the doubt by ESPN. It just makes me wonder. Irvin has a drug history and now a drug pipe is found in his car. Is this really the image that ESPN wants to present?

What say you?

if hes found guilty he will probubly be fired (or resign) from ESPN.

i think everyone was so afraid of being called a racist, that they punished Limbaugh more than they should have. it first sounded really bad, but after you think about what he said, he was just combining 2 major stories at the time. the lack of black QBs, and McNabb's very poor play up to that point of the season.

I was thinking the same thing.

And also was expecting exactly what they did on NFL Live before Monday Nights game.

Stuart Scott acting like his "grilling" Irvin (all preset questions), and Irvin trying to answer them with as much conviction in his face as possible. I believe they think it's fixed now that this is done.

Now, Rush made a "racial" comment, but truly that's opinionated in every fact. Plenty of the media didn't believe that Rush was being racial, just stating his opinion, but his wording was Politically Incorrect, equaling the cutting loose.

Irvin claims he has been rehabilitated, and that he has to help the people around him with drug addiction. This right here is frightening, if you have a past drug addiction, that virtually ruined your image for 10 years. You would think you would want to get far away from it as possible. First, to maintain your image as a person that has moved from that, and to keep yourself from the wantings that made your life difficult in the past.

The words came out of rush's mouth. There is no denying what he said, it was broadcasted on national television. There is no "due process" for a situation like that, ESPN had every right to fire him like they did. Until further investigating is done, there is no reason for Irvin to be fired. You should have stopped when you said it's like comparing apples and oranges, because it is.

Double edge sword.

If they fire Irvin and he is found innocent they are In the worng and get sued.
If they fire him and he's found guilty then They didn't give him a chance to get treatment and sort out his life, now they are bad people for not caring and they are in the wrong.

Either way I don't believe him. ESPN can find plenty of loudmouth ex-players to go on television and state biased opinons. When he does finally get canned he will easily be replaced.

Isn't it right that rush has a history of saying racist comments, and that time on ESPN wasn't his first?

Rush got burned. He was getting paid to be racy and controversial. What he said shouldn't have sparked the outrage that it did, it is unfortunate...

I rememeber the pencil necked wide-out who played for the Bengals and works with Danny at HBO now. The only time I've ever agreed with that guy was a couple of weeks ago when he said white guys can't talk about race issues now-a-days, but black people can...

He was right.

Getting back to Irvin, he's a horrible analyst. He screwed TO completely. He did him worse than Bumble did to Randy Moss on Real Sports.

chris collinsworth (sp?) is that dumb ****. i hate that guy. he used to announce all the giants games. my old roommate, a giants fan, had to mute the tv becasue it was so bad.

but i do think that a white person can not be involved in an in depth race arguement without being called a racist. the only time i will talk about race is with my friends who know im not a racist.

True.. But people like him and Theisman are quick to condemn, but at the same time turn a blind eye to those they admire or play with. John Riggins wasn't exactly a posterboy!

Ricky didn't get caught with anything.. didn't get arrested.. he got flamed for being honest. And condemned for it. Pot isn't addictive..You can't overdose on pot..

Irvins drug of choice though.. is a very destructive and evil drug. I think Irvin.. who claims to assist those around him with these terrible afflictions could've and should've selected his words more carefully. And actually shown the compassions he claims to possess and actually made comments that could have brought more reason and understanding to the situation, instead of flaming the fire sensationalism.

Agreed. BUT, I know what CanadianFishFan is talking about. Irvin has been involved with drug possession/charges in the past, yet he was VERY hypocritical of Ricky after he abrutly retired before the beginning of last season (because of his "drug" use).

Not saying it wasn't justified because alot of people were all over Ricky, but the point is he was being a hypocrite considering his past (and apprantly present as well).

Agreed, Race is one conversation that I just don't have. People are opinionated and for the most part ignorant. Words are misconstrued and taken out of context. So I just don't talk about it.

I love everyone so race, sex, religion they don't matter. I even like some Bills fans.
