MVP thoughts

I thought Peyton played a great game and I don't think the stats did him justice as he made some huge plays on their second touchdown drive to help give them the lead.

However, I really think the MVPs were Joseph Addai and Dominic Rhodes. 190 yards of team rushing against the Bears defense is pretty sweet. Granted, I've been saying the Bears defense has been stumbling of late, and it's true, but without this type of game, it would have been harder for the Colts to win.

I think the main reason they didn't win is that they're two people and would have had to share it, as neither by themselves was mindblowing. If one player had put up the bulk of yards Joseph and Dominic put up, they would have been MVP hands down.

So, I don't mind Peyton winning it, but he definitely had help.

In other news, Edgerrin James is on suicide watch.

I thought the MVP should have been Rex Grossman for stinking up the joint and giving the game to the colts. Peyton was ok but nothing spectacular. The bears have an awesome defense if Harris plays but once he went down for the year the bear's defense became very vulnerable.

My MVP for the game was Bob Sanders. He caused two critical turnovers and made several critical tackles. Giving Manning the MVP was a cop out move. Manning had an OK game; Sanders and Addai/Rhodes were more worthy IMO.

Yea but if you make that argument, the Colts defense was also affected by injuries.

I think Peyton was more than "ok", he made smart decisions and kept the ball moving. The fact that the running game worked helped out even more.

And Indy was leading before Grossman completely imploded.

I think Rhodes and Addia should have been co-MVP's.

Yeah I was hoping that Rhodes and Addia would get co-mvp honors, they really played well. Addia nearly broke the reception record to, had like 10 at the start of the 3rd quarter or something.

Indy led by just 2 points before Grossman imploded.

Not to take away from Manning, but he wasn't the biggest difference here.

Aside from Grossman's trash play, Rhodes & Addai were Indy's biggest difference makers.

EDIT: Can't forget about Bob Sanders.

I'd rank Peyton Manning #4 for Indy tonight. His biggest play was a WIDE OPEN WR.

As wide open as he was that was a pretty sweet throw, kinda stumbling backwards with a 300+ pound man grabbing you to wing it that far and pretty accurately too is impressive.

Anyway I dont get caught up in the MVP stuff for the superbowl...everyone did their job and thats why the Colts won.

Agreed.

I also think Bob Sanders agrees with this thread though. Anyone saw him up there on the Coach/Owner/MVP stage? He was the only player other than Manning up there - that stage is there specifically for the owner, head coach, MVP, and their families.

The MVP is often a publicity contest and the award often doesn't go to the guy who had the best game or was the main factor in winning the SB.

I have to say that's the truth, especially this year. My relatives living in Indianapolis agreed that Manning shouldn't have been named MVP...

:yeahthat: If it went to the individual(s) who was the main factor in winning the game, last years trophy would've gone to the officials.
