Overpaid Player of the Week: Plaxico Burress

Remember the Giants' bizarre courtship of Plaxico Burress last year? First Burress visited the Giants, and the Giants' front office said it was interested. Then the team said Burress and his agent were making outrageous contract demands, and that they were withdrawing their contract offer. Then Burress hired Drew Rosenhaus, of all people, who smoothed things out well enough that a week later the Giants announced that they had signed Burress.

A week ago today, after Burress caught the game-winning overtime touchdown pass against Philadelphia, Tom Coughlin was no doubt glad he had Burress on his team. Today he's probably wishing the Giants had never brought him in.

If Burress would play every week like he did against Philadelphia, that six-year, $25 million contract they gave him would be a good deal. But Burress doesn't play every week like he did against Philadelphia. He plays many weeks like he did yesterday against Seattle, when the Giants benched him after a first half that included one pass bouncing out of his hands and into the hands of a Seattle player, and another pass being caught and then fumbled by Burress. Burress missed most of last week's practices with a back injury, but if he was healthy enough to play at all yesterday, he was healthy enough to give an effort worthy of his contract.

hes a great reciever. he makes catches theat other recievers cant.

that said, last week he dropped a pass that went for a INT, had 2 more drops and one reception. and on that one reception he fumbled which was lost. he was benched because he just played so badly. but thats unusual for him.

if you saw the other giants games this year you would have seen him make several deep catches which most recievers would not have caught.
