Phillip Rivers looked great tonight

Is anyone else still as interested in Phillip Rivers as I am? Watching the game tonight, he looked like he has developed really nicely, and will be an excellent starter somewhere in the NFL. What really impressed me was his poise and pocket awareness... He moved around well, made accurate throws, and made smart decisions, not only on the passes to make, but when to scramble as well. And this was all in the rain!

Personally I'm hoping Brees has another Pro Bowl season, because I would be thrilled to see Rivers put on the open market for a trade. The guy will have had two years of NFL experience, with virtually no wear and tear on him... he could be the perfect choice for a team looking for a franchise QB for years to come, without having to go through the growing pains of a fresh rookie.

Who else saw him play tonight, and what did you guys think of his performance?

His pocket presence definately looks good, but that could be because their OLine is playing great and the Packers D sucks.

Yea but Rivers was a number one pick who had a great college career and was highly though of coming out of college. Rivers played really good in tonight's game and as was said looked poised in the pocket and made the throws he had to. Didnt force the ball and took what the Packers defense gave him. If he is available next off season through a trade and Feeley doesnt step up why not go and get him.

I like it but I think its Brees that will hit the free agent market not Rivers.

i have always liked rivers and would love to bring in a young qb with experience. he would be ideal as our D is aging and he could take the reigns immediatly. as far as what we could give up..personally i think booker is way overpayed and wouldnt mind seeing him go or even a future draft pick..

Don't you just love the pre-season? Everyone becomes a scout. Evaluating players against second and third string offenses and defenses. Don't get me wrong I would love to have Phillip Rivers. But you have to take a pre-season performance with a grain of salt. The third pre-season game is usually the one game where teams actually line up and play with any sort of game plan. The starters normally play the entire first half.

that was spielmen... we all know what happened to him. feeley wasnt worth a second rounder, i doubt many would argue, philip rivers has loads more potential than feeley, thats why rivers was chosen 4th overall and feeley was chosen in the fifth round.

Feeley was never the 4th pick in the 1st round of the draft

I don't think you'll find many that argue which one has better potential to develop into a star QB.

I am a grad of NC State and watch Rivers during his college days. i have said many times on here that if we ever could pull it off, it would be a steal, he is going to be something special.

I really like Rivers, I have since I first saw him play. If Brees has another year somewhat close to what he did last year there is no way they dump him. If he has a mediocre season then they will go with Rivers.

I think we go after the one that is dumped.

I didn't get to see the game tonight. But the news doesn't suprise me.

I've always had a football man-crush on Rivers. The guy was Manning-esque at the LOS in college. Unflappable. Tall. Quick release. Great football players. Bobby Bowden said he was the greatest player he ever coached against.

I'd love it if he were one day a Dolphin. But I think Brees is more likely. They suffer zero cap consequences by dealing him.
