Plummer, again, in the shadow of a No. 7

Unable to feed the orange madness, unable to beat Pittsburgh or escape the shadow of John Elway, Broncos quarterback Jake Plummer had nothing left to do except walk away as the loneliest man in Colorado.

Ten solitary steps from the locker room, Plummer finally threw in the towel. It landed in a heap against a wall.

With a chance to lead Denver to the Super Bowl and capture the city's heart, Plummer dropped the ball. He fumbled twice and threw two interceptions. Asked to be the hero, he stumbled Sunday during a 34-17 loss to Pittsburgh in the AFC title game.

"If we lose, I'm taking the blame," Plummer said. "That's my job."

As Denver wakes up this morning, it is still very much Elway's town. Plummer? He's trying. But trying is not enough.

It's never enough.

"All season long, Jake Plummer had eight turnovers. And then he gives the football away four times to the Pittsburgh Steelers. They don't need any help. They're good enough," former Denver tight end Shannon Sharpe said.

I like Plummer, he has heart. And I blame the secondary and the O-Line before I blame him.

I think with the right situation he could win. His protection wasn't that great, and then when you get behind you have to throw. When the other team knows what you are going to do, that's when the trouble starts.

As an ASU grad who has followed Plummer since he was a Sun Devil's QB, I hate to say this but I don't think Jake has what is takes to be a winner. All too often in the big games he makes the same old mistakes.....I think they should have stuck with Brian Griese in Denver before bringing in Plummer to be the heir apparent to Elway.

I think Denver played over its head all year long, they just werent that good. I wasnt surprised someone came to Denver and beat them in the playoffs. Plummer isnt that great but he isnt going to overcome the defense giving up big plays all day.

I think everybody is giving too much blame to plummer and the broncos. The better team won that game, and it nothing to do with plummer or his playing ability.

I could see the Broncos dumping Plummer like they did Griese. I don't think it's the right decision, but it wouldn't surprise me.

There isnt any denying that plumer played poorly but so did the entire Denver team. I think there is plenty of blame to go around including the coaching staff that didnt have an effective game plan on either side of the ball. That secondary played cover your eyes awfull.

I think Denver abandoned the run way too early as well. Shanahan was outcoached on every level, and Cowher came up with a better game plan.

Me and some friends met Plummer and his lil cheerleader girlfriend last March at the Dublin house here in Colorado Springs and chatted with him about different bars and even about the final four games. As for his play I dont think hes the only reason they lost.I think theres that certain "it" that it takes for a team to reach the superbowl. And he just doesnt have "it".Not saying hes bad but hes not the QB that leads Den to a superbowl thank God the Donk fans here are bad LOL.
