Resting Starters????

Do teams ever announce if they are going to rest their starters in the final game? If so ,when do they do it? Are do they always just keep it secret? Just wondering!

Some do, some don't.

IMO, I would like to play the starters for a half, to get some momentum going to the playoffs. Two week break is too much IMO. Just ask the Colts last year.

I got a feeling the only team that will be resting and MUST rest their starters are the Chicago Bears; they are dealing with tons of injuries and they need to rest their players to be healthy for the playoffs. That's bad news for everyone in the NFC Wild Card chase except Green Bay, who are playing the the Bears. If Green Bay wins that game and the New York Giants beats a bad Redskins team, Green Bay goes to the playoffs because of the SOS. I think the Packers may pull it off.

HysterikiLL is an unknown quantity at this point
The Bears will likely rest their starters in the second half. 1 - this is our biggest rivalry, playing the Packers is never taken lightly, regardless of the playoff implications or not. When Lovie came to Chicago, he said he was here to do two things -- win a super bowl, and beat the Packers. Also, it's possibly Brett Favres last game, and there will be a lot of intensity on the Bears side.

Defensive guys may get a longer rest. Rex will probably get a rest. Benson will get more carries, as has happened each week since they clinched.

I do not think they announce anything .You will see them being pulled after 1st quater in most games.Last year in the last game pats vs doiphins most started for pats were pulled at end of first quater and backup qb played for a while replaced by the #3 qb for the fourth.

Saints HC, Sean Payton, has said his team "is playing to win this Sunday". Which makes it sound like the starters will play most of the game. The team has done a lot of roster juggling bringing up guys from the PS. Judging by the roster moves the starters won't play much with some not playing at all.

Here's the problem for the Saints.....the team has looked horrible following extended time off. The Saints Offense is all about timing between Brees and his receivers. Even the Saints run game is based on the passing game. The Saints were red hot before their Bye week. The following week against the Ravens they didn't look the same. They were sloppy, turned the ball, had drops, got presnap penalties. More proof - following the big wins against the Falcons in the return to the Dome and crushing the Cowboys Payton gave the team extended time off. They lost each of the following games. What Payton's doing is a huge gamble........

Don't the Colts still have to win to lock up their AFC seeding? The only way I would rest starters is if it cannot improve your playoff seeding, or if you have a lot of starters hurt.
