Rook takes over Bucs

Quote:
Gradkowski takes over as Buccaneers starter
Buccaneers.com reports Tampa Bay Buccaneers rookie QB Bruce Gradkowski will now assume the starting quarterback duties heading into Week 4 now that QB Chris Simms (spleen) is out indefinitely. Simms remains hospitalized after having his ruptured spleen removed. Quarterback Tim Rattay now assumes the primary backup role. The club is also anticipating the return of QB Luke McCown (knee), who is currently on the PUP list.

Says alot for Rattay

this was the guy a lot of Bucs fans were calling for all season, even before Simms got hurt. Interesting to see how the kid does.

Gradkowski is going to be good for years to come. I wouldn't be surprised if he passes Simms this year. Gradkowski has a rocket for an arm and can probably scramble out of the pocket better than Simms ever will. Very nice draft pick up by the Bucs.

Man cmon this guy was like a 6th round pick and a rookie he should start over Simms or Rattay? Fans are a little nutty. I know Simms cant play but you have to figure that Rattay gives them a better chance at winning over a rookie. The kid looked good in the preseason but tons of players look good against 3rd team players who wont even make NFL teams. The kid has talent and guts, I hope he plays well but Im kind of surprised Gruden went into the season without a backup with experience. Simms was running for his life behind that Oline, hopefully this kid can avoid the rush better, hes going to have to.

rattay hasn't been on ANYone's minds in tampa. and that includes the coaching staff. he was awful in training camp, awful in preseason, and did nothing to earn a starting spot over gradkowski, who has impressed everyone, AND is a much better fit for the offense than rattay. rattay is only here because they don't have anyone else.

Gradkowski looks fantastic during preseason. I can't wait to see how he does in a real game. Looked like a young Jeff Garcia.

Yeah, I want to see if all that hype from preseason is for real...

I'm not sure if comparing him to Garcia is a good thing though... lol

Hey Im not a Rattay fan but man looking good against practice squad guys and starters looking to not get hurt is WAY different than regular season starting. Rattay has at least gotten hit in a real game and won real games, Im sorry but they are down to Rattay and a 6th round pick its over for the Bucs, they are going to be picking top 3.

Garcia's rep got killed because of T.O. Look at his numbers and the team's success after he took over for Young. He may not be a HoF'er, but he WAS a heck of a lot better than he gets credit for now.
