Saints acquire Shockey for draft picks

Sean Payton's persistence finally won out. The New Orleans Saints acquired Jeremy Shockey for a second- and a fifth-round draft pick in 2009, a source confirmed Monday. The deal was first reported by FOXSports.com. The Saints had been trying since February to acquire the disgruntled New York Giants tight end. First, they offered a second-round pick. Before the draft, they increased the offer to a second- and a fifth-round draft choice, but the Giants felt he was too valuable to lose until a few days before the start of their training camp.

I know they won the Super Bowl without him.....so it's hard to criticize them for this. But what the hell, I'm going to anyway.

they're stupid. Do they really think that Kevin Boss is an adequate replacement for Shockey? Shockey is an arrogant prick, but he's a physically imposing, athletic arrogant prick. I guess if his behavior was that bad, they didn't want to deal with him anymore, maybe they had to.....but I'm in NY market, and it wasn't outwardly that big of a deal.

I see a big fall for this team this year. I wouldn't be surprised if they finished last in that division. Strahan gone. Shockey gone. Burress in a contract dispute. Who's gonna pull it all together? Eli?

It was a good pickup for the Saints because it allows them to have the middle of the field option that can create miss matches for them. Colston, Bush, Shockey, D.Macalister and last years 1st round pick Robert Meachum are going to wreak havok on teams. As for the Giants it remains to be seen if Kevin Boss is indeed an adequate replacement for Shockey but at least for them they got some compensation for a guy that probably wasn't going to play for them anyway. In their favor you really don't know what your going to get with Shockey who's a head case and coming off a major injury.

Shockey looks like he's had a few brewskies!

big rebound year for the Saints. If Payton can find a way to use Bush the "right way"..... watch out
