Say No to Flozell

Like i said in another thread... Adams is gonna be 32 when the season starts, he's 6"7 340lbs and tore his ACL in 05. Dallas is the only team he's ever played for and I expect him to want $$$$ to come to Miami. IMO i don't think he has all that much time left and I think we need to stick with getting younger and not overpay for anymore vets who's clock is winding down.

That being said... THROW MONEY AT TRUFANT! (less than Clemens or Samuel tho)

Beggars can't be choosers. How many good left tackles hit free agency every year?

Like none.

How many years were we searching for a good left tackle before Carey finally grew into his role? We need as many quality guys as we can get to plug the holes so we can at least be respectable until the rebuilding is done.
You're not going to find a topflight left tackle in his prime in free agency, they don't exist.

Travelle Wharton UFA Carolina Panthers
A late third-round selection in 2004, Wharton has developed into a solid starting left tackle. He has been a key reason for the successes that the Panthers have had, and his absence in 2006 was a key reason for the team’s struggles. Wharton’s rookie contract will expire at season’s end, and his value on the market should be fairly strong. A quality left tackle is hard to find, and team’s looking to bolster an offensive line will have to consider Wharton. Carolina will likely make every effort to work out an extension.
is this guy beging tagged? sounds like he might be a nice addition at RT or LT

Both of Carolina's tackles are free agents....it's likely they'll only be able to keep one of them.

We're going to have options to upgrade our roster, in both free agency and the draft....but in the free agent market you're rarely going to find a guy at a key position (offensive tackle, defensive end, quarterback) who is both a great player AND in his prime.

His contract will expire at the end of 2007 or 2008?

our OL coach has a history with Wharton and our HC has a history with Flozzle

it will be interesting

sounds like the Panthers would prefer to keep Gross

Quote:
The Panthers won't let right tackle Jordan Gross get away in free agency. He was one of the NFL's top blockers last year and is an ideal fit for the Carolina organization.
If the Panthers can't get a multiyear deal done by Feb. 21, they'll likely put the franchise tag on him when free agency opens Feb. 29. That will require the Panthers to give him a one-year contract tender of $7.455 million, the average of the top five 2007 salaries for offensive linemen.
Gross said he thinks chances are good that a long-term contract agreement will get done because both sides are willing.
Things aren't as clear with left tackle Travelle Wharton, who is also eligible to become an unrestricted free agent. There are signs the Panthers would like to keep him, but he might opt to test a free-agent market that is low on good tackles.
The best alternative to play the left side is Dallas' Flozell Adams -- if he doesn't remain with the Cowboys. However, his price tag and age (33 next season) might be too steep for the Panthers.
If Wharton leaves, he could be replaced by an early-round draft pick or by moving Gross to the left side. One of the plusses with Gross is that he has played right and left tackle. The right side seems his more natural position, but he said he doesn't mind where the Panthers use him.

if they let go of Jordan Gross, we really need to scoop him up!

Travelle Wharton really isn't better than what we have. If we won't a o-line that is descent we can fill it with people like Wharton. If we won't a great o-line we develope behind Flozelle and sign Faneca.

I don't know that Flozell Adams is going to get the kind of money you think he will.

Nonetheless, Adams did quite well with Sparano on top of him and I'd have to consider it a huge boost to the offense if we could get a combination of Adams and Carey going here. I know Ronnie Brown would be appreciative.

Miami has plenty of money. There's nothing that says they couldn't get Adams and Trufant.

Sorry...but I'd trust our new coaches decision on this one....he did coach Adams last year!

That said though I'd be thrilled to get one of the top CB's like Trufant!!! I want them both and maybe Roy Williams at SS too!
