ESPN.com's Len Pasquarelli reports the New York Giants have signed TE Jeremy Shockey to a five-year contract extension that will keep him under contract through the 2011 season. The deal, which makes Shockey the highest-paid tight end in the league in terms of "new" money, is worth $26.38 million and includes various bonuses that total $13.9 million. Shockey will pocket an initial $3 million signing bonus, and there is a $7.5 million option due in March of next year that is guaranteed for injury, a $1 million roster bonus due in 2007 and a total of $2.4 million in reporting bonuses over the length of the deal. Shockey will receive base salaries of $900,000 (for 2005), $950,000 (2006), $850,000 (2007), $2.225 million (2008), $3.25 million (2009), $3.825 million (2010) and $4.508 million (2011).

He has proven hes a great player and a nice weapon on that offense but TE's are getting huge raises in there cash lately.

One thing that suprised me about Shockey was the attitude he has acquired in the NFL. When he was at UM he was always the quiet type.

^not really. he did plenty of talking on the field. i'm sure what he said off-field wasn't too much different than what it is now, he's just speaking to the new york media nowadays
