Warrick Dunn to Atlanta

Thursday, March 14

Dunn leaning toward accepting Falcons' offer

ESPN.com

ATLANTA -- The deal is not yet official but, barring a dramatic change of heart, unrestricted free agent tailback Warrick Dunn will end his five-year tenure with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to join the Atlanta Falcons on a lucrative contract.

Atlanta is said to be offering Dunn, 27, a contract that could average $4 million to $5 million per year and with a signing bonus of at least $5 million. League sources said the bonus could actually escalate into the $6 million range. Tampa Bay is not prepared to pay nearly that much, even though Dunn informed Bucs officials at the beginning of the free agent signing period he will grant the club an unofficial right of first refusal, giving them to opportunity to match any offer he gets elsewhere.

A first-round choice in the 1997 draft, Dunn has played in 76 games and started 65 during his Bucs tenure. He has 1,070 rushes for 4,200 yards and 17 touchdowns and caught 259 passes for 2,374 yards and nine scores.

If Atlanta drafts Ashley Lelie, they'll have a fast offense that will be hard to keep up with. Vick, Dunn, and Lelie could cause major problems for defenses.

Yeah, and they need a WR. Lelie would be a good selection for them and he would be playing mostly in the South to avoid weather problems. He went to Hawaii so I am sure he is used to playing in warm weather.

He was put up on the expansion draft, and I guess they're not going to re-sign him.
