Ousted imams want airline settlement

Five of six Muslim imams who were taken off a US Airways flight in Minneapolis last month want an out-of-court settlement from the airline for the ordeal.

"With the hopes of reaching an amicable resolution to this matter, we would like to take this opportunity to ask for a formal meeting with US Airways executives and legal counsel," Arsalan Iftikhar, CAIR's national legal director, wrote to the airline.

There are conflicting reports of what happened after security agents escorted the men off the plane based on other passengers' complaints of suspicious activity, the Washington Times said Monday.

CAIR claims the men were handcuffed for several hours, but one of the imams told the Times he was only handcuffed for "10 or 15 minutes" and that the imams were not led off the plane in handcuffs.

Of course they want a settlement. If this thing goes to court, they will lose. The witness statements are pretty clear that these guys acted suspiciously and that TSA did exactly what their guidelines called for.

I believe they were aiming for a lawsuit when this whole thing was dreamed up.

It's nice to know they're westernized enough to know how to follow the money.

I don't go threatening boycotts willy nilly, but I may just have to boycott US Airways if they give these men anything.

If US Air or government policy allows for a refund of their fare or a voucher as you describe, I'm okay with that.

possibly, but you understand that speaking poorly about 6 people that you feel are in the wrong and feel your intelligence is insulted by the audacity of the lawsuit doesnt mean you feel the same about 1 billion others of the same faith, correct?

Sure, I dont think most on here are in the crowd but read the comments on that page of the story. Theres a lot of 'all Islamists are terrorists' 'Islam is a evil cult', type stuff. This stereotype is getting more and more common and its disturbing. I mean we are trying to bring democracy to Iraq and Afghanistan, not annhilate their culture and convert them to Christianity.

Yeah a voucher for a future flight. Airlines used to do that more when they weren't so broke. They would do it for really bad situations. This would probably qualify.

Actually that would probably be about a ten dollar value.

well i only read like the first 10. i dont doubt there is serious sentiment.

im not sure how much i should say to this one . what i will say is that whether intended or not, the destruction of their culture is happening and a conversion is some spots of the mid-east in the future would not surprise me one bit after humiliation. if we spark a region-wide sunni/shia war, who knows if it may kill the god for those left.

once the creative destruction of capitalism kicks in the mis-east, who knows what changes there will be to society.

They better not give these guys jack****. They purposely mimicked the 9/11 terrorists. They meant to pray in a particularly conspicuous manner in order to alarm passengers, and even sat similarly to the terrorists on the 9/11 flights. They did it on purpose for either money or to mock the system they hate, or both. Man, I wish I could run US Airways for a day.
