We'll see what passes and so forth...

"Bush would slice a $600 million grant program for local police agencies to $60 million next year"

"He would eliminate the $300 million the government gives to states for incarcerating illegal aliens who commit crimes"

I guess the Republican leadership wants crime to become a hot-button issue again...

Did you even read it? He made some pretty sweeping cuts. But who knew we were paying 2.2 billion in Indian support? (I hope that was meant to be native america, but the writer put indian...?)

I guess it's neccesary but it still sucks. =/

Police and Firefighters are losing a lot of money. Is it worth all the outside trouble that we have to loosen our security at home? People are gunna lose jobs over this I think.

Hopefully everything ends up being cool and they use what money they have effiecently so we can afford what we need and maybe even cut into that deficit.

according to the end of the article, if everything is passed, it should cut about 200 billion off the deficit for next year.

It is as expected, the EPA, parks service, social programs, schools, fire, and police all get cuts while the defense budget keep spiraling upward. Why they needed to buy off Cochran who knows...but 600 mil is a hefty price tag. Sea going coast guard vessels....anyone else see a contradiction here?

As it was mentioned in the article....the figures dont take into account the money being thrown at Iraq and Afganistan, so lop off another 300 billion. How the hell they manage to spend 300 billion dollars in a year is beyond me.

Bush's priorites are the problem...

"Defense Department documents obtained Friday show the Pentagon's budget would grow by 4.8 percent to $419.3 billion."

Add $80 billion for Iraq and they're spending $500 billion on defense while Bush's mandated "No Child Left Behind" is $27 billion short and the list goes on and on... Bush's words don't match his deeds. He is a fraud with a capital F.

It has to grow. They have to rebuild their weapon stockpile. They had a major build up in 2001 and 2002 but most of that stockpile is almost gone from fighting the war on world wide terrorism. I would imagine a lot of the $ in that budget also includes raise of pay for our soldiers. I heard something about the Army offering 150K to officers who re-op for another 6 years. That kind of pay out is not paid with funny money you know.

Bush funded no child left behind but some states did not take the $ appointed to them. It is not his fault some states don't want to take federal $ that comes along with standards for the children that the $ is actually being spent on.

Yes I know we need those tanks sitting in Germany to fend off the evil Communist empire. Some senator just got a new Jaguar from Boeing so we need more cargo planes. Oh and new submarines and missile cruisers are always in high demand...... Whatever would we do if we didnt have a ring of ballistic missile subs surrounding Russia?

You know what soldiers make? Only a tiny fraction of that mammoth budget is going to the troops.

Thats what the $250 billion Bush has ask for, it's for (Iraq). Thats not included in the budget.

So if the kids flunk then heyyyyyyyyy, we don't have to give them money.. GREAT, just don't give the innercity schools any money.. GREAT PLAN.. If the kids were lacking to start with how can you expect them to catch up in one year? It's a great plan for failure and it fits the republican party to a T...

Are you actually implying we should not have defenses in place to stop a possible Russian invasion or nuclear attack? FYI they are moving most of those troops from Germany and S. Korea over the next 5-years I believe.

The last paragraph is pure speculation on your part. The last time I checked a large portion of the military budget is used to pay and train for our military forces.

That's not true. the $250 does not include rebuilding our stockpile of weapons. That budget is for the cost of keeping our troops deployed in Afghanistan and Iraq.

No if the kid flunks the state government that took the $ will not be able to get the same amount of federal aid the next time around until they can show the federal $ is being used properly. You know to actually teach children! God forbid the federal government actually wants to get a good return from the $ it invests back into the population.

94.2 Billion is the total personnel spending. I dont know the breakdown on how this money is spent but I assume 1/3 salaries, 1/3 benifits, pensions, 1/3 training etc...
