Thank you for all that. When I woke up today I saw scrolling at the bottom of the NFL Network that Culpepper was traded for by the Dolphins. And Brees signed with the Saints.
This was a stark contrast to going to bed with just reading that Brees preferrred the Dolphins. I fell in love with the idea of Brees in Miami. So it was tough to swallow the seemingly abrupt 180 by Miami. But as I read more and more about this, especially information like your post, I can begin to see that with Culpepper we have upgraded. I think a lot of people are reacting strongly and negatively to landing Culpepper, but a lot more people are reacting strongly to the negative reaction about Culpepper. The haters are really just doubters (like myself), and with time I think a lot of us will become full-fledged supporters. This is a big change, everyone needs time to adjust.

I second the nomination for this as post of the year. Great job Fineas!
Like many people, I had already adopted Drew Brees as our next QB and was initially disappointed when I heard that we traded for Culpepper. After reading this point and rethinking my position, I can safely say that we dodged a bullet. I have serious concerns about Brees now and I feel that Culpepper is much better for this team. He is the right guy for our offense and, believe me, the slight delay that may occur for him to recover and losing a 2nd round pick will be but a distant memory before long. We have NEVER had a QB like Culpepper. Danny was the greatest passer and leader I ever saw, but Culpepper, by evidence of this thread, is the most talented overall. The comforting thing to know is that Daunte will recover - that's a fact. He will absolutely be 100%, it's just a question when. On the other hand, Brees may never fully recover. He may never return to glory. Therefore, Saban made the right choice, not to mention that Brees was going to bust our cap. I wish we had a few more draft picks, but I think Saban will go to work and bring in some more players soon, so the 2nd round pick may not hurt so bad. |
