joey`s performance vs NE

I have noticed that everyone is raving about joey numbers but no one seem to remember in the superbowl years the pats have always given yards but not points.

so when evaluating his number do keep that in mind .The pats defences playing style is to do this exactly .
check out the years numbers and you will see everyone getting big numbers of yards but no points.

That is true. NE uses a bend but don't break Defense and if you noticed the CB's played way off of Miamis WR's at the line. It was all about not giving up the big play and things get tighter and tighter the shorter the field gets. I think Miami fans we impressed by the fact that Harrington got the ball out much quicker and only took one sack. Scoring and turnover wise he really didn't fare any better than Culpepper has. One thing more is you have to also consider this was Harrington's first start and To really give a fair judgement on the comparision he really deserves a few more starts and a few more weeks practicing with the first offense under his belt. Then you'll be able to look at what he brings to the table.

Good post. Once Harrington gets a few games under his belt, and he's still tossing INTs, then you say screw that guy. Right now he deserves a pass for that first game. Joey has a history of wilting under pressure, and with Miami's O-line it's not going to be easy on him. The 2nd half of that Pats game they were all over Joey and Miami scored 0 points in the 2nd half.

But Harrington looked much better than Daunte to start the game, and were it not for a few breaks, the Pats would have had a much more difficult time controlling the outcome.

The interception Samueal baited Joey on was just one good play that swung momentum. At the time Miami had no problem driving down the field at will against the supposedly superior Patriots defense.

Give New England any points, and they'r every tough to beat. Make them play from behind, and Miami had a very high probablility of winning that game with the way the defense was playing.

I am sorry but there has to be some correction...

Joey did a decent job in moving the ball against NE in the 1st half...scoring all 10 points...

The 2nd half, he could not move the ball at all but only for a rare drive in the middle of the 4th quarter, where a FG was missed...then they could not get the ball back.

MIA had 6 drives in the 2nd half that averaged, 5 plays and 15 yds per drive...and "0" points...

So Joey did a decent job against the NE D in the 1st half, NE adjusted and prevented Joey from doing the same in the 2nd half...

You are correct. NE game planned for Cpep and the Pats team like the rest of us only learned just before kick off Harrington would get the start. This is what Bruschi has said that the pats at half time changed up the scheme to better suit the defensive play against Joey. If you noticed the Blitzes dropped dramatically from the first half to the second. Knowing Miami's offensive bame plan was going to be predicated on getting the ball out fast the Pats decided to go more on coverage than blitzing for the most part, they knew the rush wouldn't get there in time and it would leave the seconday short handed. As I said in the last post Joey needs more time working with the 1st offense to shake off some rust and you'll get a better idea of his ability. As each game he starts go's by though teams will have more and more film to study so its kind of becomes a double edge sword. Throwing him in as starter last sunday was really a good call from Saban because he knew NE would be preparing for Cpep. Belichick called some good adjustments at the half that helped NE shut down the Miami Offense.

and that is half the battle to win games...

Now opponents know how to defend the Miami O with Joey, as long as the OL maintains its poor lack of execution...
