Mangini still unsure on who will be Jets' starting QB

Even though the regular season is two weeks away, Jets coach Eric Mangini insists he hasn't chosen a starting quarterback.

Those who thought Mangini would finally choose between Chad Pennington, Patrick Ramsey, Brooks Bollinger and rookie Kellen Clemens on Sunday were disappointed.

"All four of those guys need to be ready to play Friday," Mangini said, referring to the preseason finale against Philadelphia. "That's the way we're going to approach the week with all the players. They need to be ready to play for as long as we decide to keep them in the game."

Asked if he might not announce a starter even in the days before the Sept. 10 opener at the Tennessee Titans, Mangini said, "It would depend on whether someone has distinguished himself by the time we get to Tennessee."

Such indecision might bother players on some other teams, but Pennington, who started the 13-7 loss to the Giants on Friday night, said "It's not that big of an issue."

"Everything's new here," Pennington said. "Coach understands the situation and he'll make the decision when he feels the time is right."

Pennington said he thought all the quarterbacks on the roster had the same perspective.

Damn, they must equally blow if he's so indecisive.

Well can you blame him? Basically the situation he has been dealt is the following.

He walkes into his bathroom in the morning, and takes a big dump with 4 pieces of waste, if you will. He then gets up, looks into the toilet bowl and realizes he has to choose one to pick out, throw on the frying pan, and cook for breakfast.

You know how players have tape on their helmet with their name written across it? If I were Mangini, I would just write turd 1, trud 2, turd 3 and turd 4 on their helmets.

HAHA! Oh man I am glad the Jets are so bad!

Don't buy any of that, Chad is the starter and has been since Day 1 of camp. As long as he was healthy he was going to start.

I agree. Mangini was simply hedging his bet.

I think that maybe Fin fans ought to worry about why Culpepper didn't come out after half time and play a series since the rest of the Fins' starting offense did rather than laughing at the Jets' QB situation.

They also might want to wonder why daunte has always come up small in big games and why in a crappy div and conf he's never been a winner.

Well the Phins actually have a real defense and better weapons overall than the Vikes did. Hasn't daunte gone to an AFC Championship? You can't be that bad to do that with a mediocre defense.

Daunte has never gone to the AFC Championship game. He got to the NFC Championship game in 2000 by having a bye and winning one game. His Vikes got creamed 30-0 by the Giants, I believe, despite having Chris Carter and Randy Moss.

The Fins can't really brag about their D until they fix their secondary. I think they managed to make it worse, and that goes double for their oline. All the offensive weapons in the world won't help if Ronnie doesn't have holes to run through and Daunte doesn't get enough time to throw.

What makes the dolphin D "real"? They were middle of the pack last year and their best players are another year older. Is the dolphin D better? absolutely but again the conf is alot tougher.

It's going to be Pennington...we've known that since before the 1st Preseason game. The competition is over. If Pennington gets hurt then it's Clemens' job to lose most likely unless he ops for the veteran expierence with Ramsey or Bollinger.

Thats was simply so Joey can play with the first offense and gain some experience in case of injury....DC is no question. I don't really think that is anything to worry about at all.....why is everyone making such a big deal out of pre season...the guy did just recover from surgery....as far as the Jets go...Chad is the starter...Mangini is just trying not to show his cards!

Okay buddy, just wait till the season begins. You obviously have no clue, but that's good. Let it all be a surprise.
