Chad as an backup?

Here is one to think about the Jets have asked Pennington to take what adds up to an 8 million dollar guanteed pay cut. 1 million base salary heavy with incentives. They take a 12 million cap hit if they cut him this year or a 9 million hit next. The thought up there is to take the hit now. If available and according to all accounts he appears to be well on the road to recovery, what about signing Chad as a back-up to Gus. Get a strong prospect to groom and have chad battle with Gus

As a Jets fan I can tell you Chad would flop in Miami worse than Ray Lucas.

The guy is finished. I am in the minority that thinks we will cut him if he doesn't restructure. Word has it that Mangini is enamored with Cutler, and our owner surely won't pay 2 QB's big money.

I also think Pennington is done, he never had a strong arm to begin with, When he did play last year it looked even worse. He may never play at a decent level again.

This really should be in a different section.

Merged: The love affair continues

NOT! The Jets have asked Chad Pennington to take an $8 million pay cut. If he doesn't, they may cut him. Direct from tv sports - as soon as a link is available, I'll post it.

Here's the link.

Cut for Chad eyed
The anticipated staredown between the Jets and Chad Pennington is on. Faced with the task of slashing about $26 million from the salary cap over the next two weeks, the Jets have reportedly approached Pennington about taking a significant pay cut.

Exactly. The last thing I wanted was for them to release Pennington. he's an albatross around their necks. Oh well, they were bound to dump him sooner or later and they're still going to take a hit to the salary cap.
