Parcells drive up price of PaceI was thinking about our signings and how we are rebuilding from the ground up,getting blue collar players.Pace was different than the rest of the players,we offer him $20 million in guantee money. For a guy who plays the same side as Porter...It is then leaked everywhere that we have signed him, about ten minutes later he is going to visit the Jets...The jets, clear cap space by trading D-rob to bungles, sign Pace $21 mil actual money. The D-rob trade falls through,Jets welcome to cap hell. The Jets, who Franeca said were the only team to offer him a deal trump their 4 year $32 million deal against themselves with a 5 yr $40 million deal. They bidded against themselves.
While I am at it Jenkins, the DT they traded for 390 lbs with an injury history. His contact is full of weight bonuses,Known clubhouse cancer. They want him to switch to nose tackle,a new position. Woody who did not start till last five games of the season for the Lions he also has weight issues, plus he sucks....Coles a player who plays his heart out wants to get paid, guess what if they can not trade d-rob, no cap room,Kerry Rhodes wants a new contract...Same thing I guess I just want to thank god we have Parcells and not the front office of the Jets. The ONLY team in the NFL without their own stadium..The first step back to glory will be stepping on and crushing the Jets

I could care less about Pace I think he is going to be a bust and the Jets over paid him so much I mean 60 million for a player that has played 5 years and has 14 sacks go a head the Jets can have him

Awesome UNC pic RBT. I just have one question for you though (RBT), were you for signing Pace or against it?
EDIT: Like you said MannyFernandez, the Bengals trade did fall through but I heard that Dwayne Robertson is going to the Broncos in a matter of days. |

I was for it but if the Jets want him that uch have him 60 million is way to much for a playerthat has 15 sacks in 5 years.

I believe that may have been leaked by Pace himself to drive up his price and if so good move by him. Now I am happy that Parcell's has a ceilling on what he is willing to offer and is willing to stick to it. Like you pointed out the Jets will hurt themselves if they paid too much but I beleive more importantly it sends a signal to other players and their agents that they have a take it or leave it offer on the table and if they are not willing to accept it then both sides can move on to better options. Thats a great "blue sky" value.

LOL c'mon man we wanted pace and he got away. Bottom line is we offered pace a huge deal and you dont put that kinda money in someones face to make a point, b/c theres always a chance they'll take it. We drove up the price but thats just your basic supply and demand, the more people want something the more they will spend.

The Jets are in a pretty ****ty situation in a few years...But don't be surprised if they field a pretty damn good team THIS year. I mean the moves they made this offseason will have some great and quick responses, but in 2 years they'll blow up in their faces.
If they lose a guy like Kerry Rhodes due to overpaying a guy like Pace, well that's just funny.

I May be the only one that will say this but our front office having such a hard on for a seemingly average player scares me a little about our evaluation process. I actually hope Pace is a good player so I feel like they are making good evaluations of players.
People act like we made such smart deals but when Starks line coach at Tennessee found out what he was getting he seemed more than suprised. I hope Starks is a good player but it definately seemed like we overpayed for potential. He was a part time starter coming off a 16 tackle year. I say this as a guy that wanted Starks but was utterly shocked at the money he got.
