Patriots cut Gramatica!!

The patriots once had the best clutch kicker in the game now they have a rookie. Gramatica was cut from the patriots roster.

Could be good news for us, but I would never count any move Bill Belichek makes as an advantage for his opponents. He knows what he is doing. If he cut gramatica, it is because he is keeping a better player.

The rookies farthest field goal was from 33 yards out.

Maybe they'll bring back Flutie for the drop kick.

Martin Gramatica has been released by the Patriots, effectively ending the team's kicking competition.
The job is rookie Stephen Gostkowski's.
Gostkowski, a fourth-round pick out of Memphis, was 3-of-3 on field goal attempts in Saturday's preseason game against the Cardinals. The kicks came from 37, 33 and 37 yards. He also was 3-of-3 on extra points and handled all kickoffs.
Gostkowski was told in the middle of last week that he'd be handling all kicking duties in the game, partly because the coaching staff wanted to see how he handled the pressure. After the game, Patriots coach Bill Belichick said he liked what he saw.
"Overall, it seemed like he did a pretty good job," Belichick said at the time. "I think he's had a good camp. I think it's been a very competitive camp with Martin Gramatica and Stephen. I think they both handle themselves pretty well. This is a good chance for Stephen to just experience the whole situation of a game in the NFL, kicking all of the kicks and not just alternating like we did last week."
The 6-foot-1, 210-pound Gostkowski was the first kicker selected in the NFL Draft, and was generally considered the top prospect at the position because of his powerful right leg. He was 70-of-92 on field goals over his collegiate career, improving each year (42-of-49 over his final 2 seasons).

I have read reports that Gostkowski has hit FG as far out as 55 yards out but thats been at TC only so far but he certainly has the leg to carry that distance. To date his longest kick in a preseason game was 37yds Vs the Cardinals which he had 3 FG kicks that game 37 33 37 all were good. He actually has better distance than Vaniteri and it shows on his kick offs which was never a strong point of Adams. I'd rather have this guy than Martin Gramatica. He's a rookie but If I had to choose one position kicker is one place a rookie can play without too much of a let down in production.

Exactly, I don't know why so many of you are laughing. This is not really good news for Dolphins fans.
