Now that it's five-years, $18 million, I'd like it far more than I did when it was six-years, $38 million.

Honestly, it depends on how you view Welker. If you think last year was a fluke and that he's a marginal #3 or maybe even #4 WR, then he's overpaid.

If you think he's one of the most productive slot receivers in the NFL and a dangerous kick returner, then it's OK.

From the Patriots standpoint, it's Deion Branch and a late 2nd round pick for Wes Welker and a 1st. Reasonable deal if Welker's legit. They look like similar players, too... although Branch is more talented.

Since he is a WR you have to be talking about that most recognizable rechee "Bug eyes" caldwell he is most certainly recognizable especially when he is dropping wide open passes...wes at least can catch...and when did Bruschi turn into roadkill ?? he looks like a shell of a shell of his former self.

Welker has been productive with below average QBs, I'm scared to see what he's going to look like with Tom Brady passing the ball to him.

I'm a Pats fan. Someone mentioned this may be a win-win trade and I tend to agree. Though I think a 2nd and 7th is a lot to give up I think Welker will be a very good fit for the Pats and helps address one of their big needs. Clearly he's not the guy who's going to stretch the field and the Pats still need someone like that. But he should be a very reliable possession receiver for Brady and the Pats love to run those WR screens - a role in which Welker should do well. Draft picks, even first rounders, are never sure things. You might pick up a great player in the 2nd, or even the 7th round, or you might not. The Pats still have two 1st round picks so giving up a 2nd for an established guy like Welker doesn't really mortgage their future. At the same time, the Dolphins can use the picks to build for the future.

In ONE of the games, in the other he had 1 rec for -1 yards and in 3 seasons he has ONE career TD. A 2nd was alot to give up plus while it's reported he's a good return man that just isn't the case based on his 22 yd avg on KORs and 9 yd avg on PRs.

he gets consistently around the 25-30 yard line on kick-offs, thats not bad but he really lacks that burst to break the long one and in a KR you need that. he is a good route runner and has great hands, with Brady he could be a star but at this point he's a nobody and you don't trade 2nds for nobodies

22 yards per return, it's not good. 30 yd line is about average, good returners are brining it out past the 30. We consistently were staring past the 30 w/ Justin Miller this year who averaged 28 yds a return on KOs- THAT is a good return man.

I have no beef with that, he was just above average as a returnman. people just love him because of his heart and chartacter, but his skills on the football field are limited

I completely understand why he was a fan favorite I just can't unerstand why a team would give up a 2nd and 7th rd pick and $10 mil guaranteed.
