Yeah, it doesnt make sense that they wouldnt receive a loss but once people realized that this team had a chance to go perfect in the regular season, they tried the best to keep it that way (ravens game anyone??) The NFL was just trying to make as much money off the pats run as they could, and they sure as hell succeeded. Wasnt the giants-NE regular season game one of, if not the highest rated regular season game ever?

The league will slowly let this die.. they will not bring it up again. Its not in their economic or moral interest to do so.

The jets tape was confiscated at end of the first half, it was never seen by Belichick of any of the other coaches so nothing illegally video taped could have been used to gain an advantage. The act of video taping was breaking the rules and using that tape to gain an unfair advantage would have been cheating. In the same instance there should be some evidence/proof that any illegal tape caused an unfair advantage. The fact that you broke the video tape rule doesn't prove diddly about what its use was or even if it was ever used at all.
Also where do you draw the pre 07 limit? 2 yrs 5 yrs and if someone else drags out proof of another team breaking the rules in the past should they also be open to investigation? What about Jimmy Johnson and his personal admittal which amounts to a plea of guilty? Shouldn't we also open an investigation into all things Jimmy Johnson? Maybe we can get Arlen Specter to investigate back to 1960 and really get to the bottom of all this? Wouldn't that be a king size pissing match.
My point is Goodell doesn't want to drag this out its not good for the league or the $$$ machine especially where he already stated he (the league) has known this has been going on league wide for years. He wants it over and put to rest.

The fine (3/4 of a mill) ...plus the loss of any first rd pick wasn't exactly "chump change" as you say. Any 1st round pick is a high price to pay even the 31st. I think for what the commisioner had it was enough.

Yes, it DOES matter now. Pats* have been cheating and doing this crap since 2000. Thank how much improper info they've acquired over the years from just taping every team's signals (nevermind, they've probably done a LOT more stuff we know nothing about). With that kind of competitive advantage, they need to run every one of the coaches and assistants at NE out of the NFL. No ifs, ands, or buts. They can never be allowed to come back.
