Player Question: Fonoti, Toniu

Hey Fin Fans how good is Fonoti, Toniu, I noticed he is a FA and there are alot of Bills fans interested in pushing for him. I want Fin Fans opinion though because I do not know much about him. Any Help to build my knowledge about him would be appreciated

He's great in run support, not as good in pass support. Has weight issues, but certainly has a mean streak to him. Played for the Chargers, but was cut. The Dolphins picked him up last year and he saw playing time on the line. I'd ask the Bills fans that are so high on him why they didn't suggest grabbing him from the plethora of unsigned players before we did? He was sitting on the pile for a while. Maybe the Cam/Houck connection keeps him here, maybe he goes elsewhere. We'll have to see what he shows up to minicamp weighing.

Well I think it has alot to do with trying to fix our O-Line, so fans are tossing names out there. And I think alot of fans see his weight and think he would fix our short running game. So that is why I came here to ask because I figured you all would know him best.

When healthy and around 350 he's a tug-boat (his nickname). Pass protection is about average, which I really don't care at LG where Ronnie would like to run.

he was a pro bowler the first year of the Chargers turn around (Rivers' rookie season), got hurt and traded to the Vikings midseason due to weight problems. Failed a physical with Oakland this offseason, signed with the Bucs but got cut because he was pushing 400 lbs. I think his weight dropped significantly after signing with us, but I'm not sure.

So my guess would be if he continues to resemble a beached whale he'd be a waste, but if you can keep his weight down you(we?) might get a steal.

Hmmm not liking the weight issue, already had too many fat un-athletic O-Line over the past couple years.

When he is at weight he is a great player. In fact if he stays at weight I dont even think we need to sign Deilman or another guard.

If Cameron and Houck let him just walk away without making an offer Id be weary of signing him though, I believe he has played under both before so they know him well.
