The Patriots are prepared to part ways with wide receiver Troy Brown, as the team is not planning to offer its all-time leader in receptions a contract for the 2008 season. According to a source with knowledge of the situation, out of courtesy to Brown, the Patriots recently informed the 15-year veteran, who is a free agent, that he was not in their immediate plans and that if he was interested in returning for a 16th NFL season he was free to field offers from other teams.

the Jets are hosting Troy Brown for a free agent visit on Monday.
After the Patriots told Brown that he's no longer in their plans, the Jets and Browns were quick to contact him. Brown could push Brad Smith to be New York's third receiver. Chansi Stuckey could also emerge as a contender.

I love Troy Brown and all but, he's very likely through being much of a useful player. In a certain 5th WR late game PR role, he'd probably be fine. But if anyone tries to use him as the slot receiver/nickle back/main PR he used to be, they're going to be disappointed.

That being said, if he goes to Cleveland or New Orleans or something, I wish him the best and hope he catches 50 balls.
