Brand to be a Sixer

Sweet!! Finally, Philly is back. Let the renewal of the Philly/Boston rivalry commence.

6ers became a very interesting team. If Thad Young continues to develop at a rapid pace, and they add a 3 point shooter, they've got a scary team...
PG-Miller
SG-Green/Iggy
SF-Iggy/Young
PF-Brand
C-Dalembert

with Green/Young,Evans, Smith, Williams, and Speights coming off the bench

with that and the Raptors improving (I think JO will have a great season playing next to Bosh), the ECF probably won't be Boston/Detroit.

If he's healthy, great pickup, amazing pickup.

If he's Chris Webber this team is going back to the dark ages.

More duke class as another dookie breaks his word. The situation is not quite as bad as what Carlos Boozer did to Cleveland but Brand still gave his word and wnet back on it- he learned from the best at that in Durham.

this is some bull. If you're gonna be mad and Brand and Boozer, be mad at Baron who said he'd resign with Golden State, be mad at Shaq for how he left Orlando, hell be mad at John Salmons for reaching a verbal agreement with Toronto then backing out. Or to switch sports, be mad at JD Drew for what he did to LA.

the situations were not bad to begin and could easily be avoided. Make YOUR players top priority, don't even give them a chance. Brand took LESS money from the 6ers than he would've made with the Warriors, and less years than the Clips were offering. So it wasn't a money move.

This is the Clipps fault for letting this happen.Should have paid the man, especially since hes had to endure all those years on horrible teams.

This what happens when an owner is as bad as the Clipps.Cheap sucker.

Owners cut players all the time, there isn't any loyalty from teams to players either.Hes looking out for his best interests, and hes doing the right thing.

Trash Sterling for past misdeeds if you will but lately the man has been handing out the cash. He matched the deals for Brand and Maggette, and gave a nice contract to Kaman.

Brand stated his reasoning behind opting out of his deal was to allow the team to improve itself by luring a marque FA. The team held up its end of the bargain.....Brand did not. Of course these are all just verbal deals.....a few hours from now Brand could have a new max deal in LA...who knows.

Wrong sport. In this league they have guaranteed deals.

Im more than convinced Brand wanted to continue playing for the Clipps,I think he enjoyed it there, all things considered.

The Clipps pulled a snake move when they said they pretty much would give up his rights to sign Davis. That makes it pretty much impossible to offer that 6th year on the contract.

Brand has been the best player on that team since...????And what do they do?

Oh and ownership will do pretty much what they will...Example:Kwame Brown. If they dont want a player they'll find away to deal him.And they usually do unless its Kobe or Duncan. There's no loyalty on either end.

And Kaman is about the only remaining player on that team that you mentioned that they matched deals for...

Good Point... Since it is a verbal commitment ,Brand can opt out at any time before he signs that contract. So this is not a done deal as of yet... He maybe using this as leverage for negotiating for a long term deal.

Looks like its pretty much a done deal to me fellas:

Philadelphia, PA (Sports Network) - The Philadelphia 76ers have reportedly reached a contract agreement with free-agent center Elton Brand, who has spent the last seven years of his career with the Los Angeles Clippers.

The Los Angeles Times reported Brand's deal is believed to be for five years and worth around $80 million.

The 29-year-old Brand opted out of the final year of his contract with the Clippers. Brand, who sat out 74 games last season while recovering from a ruptured Achilles' tendon, was to be owed $16.4 million had he stayed for the final year of his deal. He played in just eight games at the end of last season and had averages of 17.6 points and 8.0 rebounds.

Again, i can only hope he's the same player he was pre-achillies. If the Sixers get the 20-10 Brand who'll be a dominant scoring forward for them you've got to consider them immediate contenders to win the east already with a team consisting of Andre Miller, Andre Iguodala, Thadeus Young and Sam Dalembert (who should be a lot better with Brand). What the Sixers do lack is a good outside shooter. Their best one was probably Rodney Carney and they traded him to make room for Brand.

NBA has guarantee contracts regardless if they get cut. Clips should save their money for next year brand isnt a franchise player anyways. When the last time you heard him do something in crunch time. He's a great player but he is replaceable.

Rumor is Brand left because Sterling didnt give him a no trade clause in his contract. With how complicated nba salary cap are trading contracts are huge. Only 1 player has a no trade clause in the NBA.
