The Dave Wannestant Appreciation ThreadHello guys I am from Pittsburgh originally and Dave is really big up there. I really enjoyed his time as coach of the Fins and would like to know if you guys had a favorite Dave Wannestant moment?
Mine was in 2000 During the Wildcard game against the Colts and Lamar Smith ran for 200 gillion yards and beat Manning and Colts. Dave jumped on his back after the game and gave him the team ball. My favorite Dave Wannestant quote was after the Denver game in 2002 which we won when he gave Zach Thomas a game ball he said. "We did'nt win with our minds we won with our... What Zach?" "Our Hearts." ![]() Of course he did have his down moments. I remember the Lobster traps before the Vikings game in 02 and we ended losing after Chris Carter dropped a TD Pass from Jay. If Sparano and Co. Do not make it down here I would love to see Dave Wannestant back as coach of my Fins. ![]()

Haha yea he was the best coach since shula so far but him and speilman drove this team from a championship team to 20 bust and stuck with fielder a couple of years more than we should have.

Fielder was the best Qb we had since Marino. So I would not be knocking Jay all to much. Look at his winning record from 2000-2004 and 3 playoff appearances.

Its nothing against jay feilder its just that we had a championship type defense and we had the best running game in the league but then it all comes down to the qb and since everyone here knew we couldnt win a superbowl with jay feilder we stuck with him too long. Unless wanny had no say in the draft or trades then its not his fault it was speilmans.

Always a fan but absolutely no love for the DW/Jay era. Save the stats, it was franchise erosion.

The day he resigned. Best. Day. Ever.
Oh, and when we drafted Eddie Moore over Anquan Boldin, despite Spielman's intent to take the wideout, for his "special teams ability". Or that way he would stroke his hair when things went bad. Or the way he would say, "mmmkay?" at the end of every sentence. Or, well, you get the idea. |

Mine was when some radio guys took his resignation speech and dubbed in "Fu**'in" every third or fourth word. ![]() |

Only Cam CAmeron makes me appreciate Wanny but even he thought about drafting a qb. Personally we have not had a good coach since we kicked Shula to the curb. Maybe Sparano will change that.

Its Wannstedt. For a fan of his (god knows why) i'd think you'd at least spell his name correctly.
He's still the #1 reason this franchise took a nose dive. Him and Spielman.

Wanny was 100x better than Cameron as a coach. I appreciate Wanny's time as a coach because when he took over we were suppose to suck and instead we became a fixture in the playoffs. His first year was my favorite year of football. The playoff win over the Colts was awesome.

dave wannstedt destroyed this team look at the team he took over verses the team he left. look at the chicago bears team he took over and look at the team he left. this guy has no eye for talent, name one guy he brought into the pros that is anygood this guy has no idea how to coach his way out of a tight spot or how to make adjustments in games so keep him in pitt and enjoy your mighty panthers being at the bottom of the big east every year. rutgers and conn. have past you by while you guys are loving wanny.
