"We gave Trent a new contract when he got here, so there will be some dead cap with him. ($1.3 million if I recall correctly.)"
-- My memory is that we gave green a $7 million bonus pro-rated over 4 years. So that means 5.25 Million in Dead Money, to cut a guy with a $4.1 million base salary.

Instead of saving $4.1 million under the cap, like Armando did, we lose $1.1 million... Nice.

We just pissed away a fifth-round pick and $5 million... but our cap situation will be better next year by $3.5 million.

Trent's base salary was $1.5 million. He got a $1 million signing bonus, a $100,000 workout bonus, and $1.2 million in roster bonuses before the team put him on injured reserve. Based on the cap figures at the bottom of the article, the signing bonus is pro-rated over the three years of the deal, but the workout and roster bonuses were counted entirely on last year's cap.

So at most, we're looking at $667K dead cap, but if I'm reading this correctly, we could get a $2.2M cap credit for roster bonus that was counted last year but not earned?

Green signed contract worth $10 million less to join Dolphins
http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=2906940
Quote:
According to league salary documents, Green received a $1 million signing bonus in his new, three-year contract with the Dolphins, and will earn a workout bonus of $100,000. His base salary for 2007 is $1.5 million. There is a $3.4 million roster bonus that represents more than half of Green's compensation for this season, and it is paid at a rate of $200,000 per week if Green is on the active roster. Assuming he is on the roster for all 17 weeks of the season, he will collect the entire $3.4 million, bringing his total compensation to $6 million.

Under his Kansas City contract, Green had a 2007 base salary of $7.2 million.
But Green will have the opportunity to top that $7.2 million if he collects on incentives and bonuses built into his Miami contract. Green can earn nearly $2.5 million in add-ons if he is the starter, returns to the form he exhibited until a head injury all but scuttled his '06 season with the Chiefs, and leads the Dolphins deep into the playoffs.

In 2008, Green, who will turn 37 next month before the start of training camp, has a base salary of $2.8 million and a $100,000 workout bonus. There is a $500,000 roster bonus that is payable at the rate of $29,412 for each week he is on the roster.

The final season of the contract, in 2009, calls for a $3.5 million base salary and a workout bonus of $100,000. Again, there is a $500,000 workout bonus, at $29,412 per week.

Actual savings is around 9 million.
Salguero is actually wrong on two fronts on this article. First mistake that he made was the details on marty booker's contract. MIA actually cleared the full $4.3mil, MIA was "not" on the hook for "any" of the prorated bonus. why? because when we traded for him, the CHI bears took the whole signing bonus hit and the MIA dolphins only took on the "non"guaranteed salary of marty. so MIA actually cleared the "full" $4.3mil by cutting him.

also, secondly, Salguero was incorrect on the savings we get from cutting Shelton. Salguero is not aware of, or has forgotten, is that with the new CBA rules, every team is allowed to designate "two players on the team" that they can have the prorated cap hit split in "two" by the bonus being split in half for the season they are cut and the next one.

so we actually cleared "more" by cutting Shelton. The $1.75mil that Salguero thinks MIA has as dead money is actually split in half and more like $850,000 of dead money for the 2007 cap and the 2008 cap.

So we cleared the whole salary and are hit with only $850,000...not $1.75mil, like Salguero incorrectly calculated. Last year we designated Kevin Carter and I believe Mcmichael was the other one. This year, it should be Zach Thomas and LJ Shelton.

He mentions emailing the team for confirmation and/or corrections and states that they have not responded yet. They will correct him with those numbers I mentioned when they do respond.

We had $35.5 million before any of the cuts, although $13 million was designated for signing draft picks. We might be at $45 million now.

Dead cap was $666,667

and yes, Miami should get a cap credit for those games he missed. It will be part of the cap adjustment which I do not have yet.
