Is a Salary Cap in the NFL really helpfull?

Considering that the average length of a NFL career is less then four years and most draft picks are signed for four or five years, how many really make it into the open market still healthy, If capped just the draft picks for five years, extended the draft back to twelve rounds, you really are saving alot of money on young and unproven guys and giving it to guys who deserve it, over fifty percent of the players wont even make it to free agency because they will be out of the league by the time they are free agents
