Thats a nice political spin on it. Russell signed a 6 year deal, Long signed a 5 year deal. Look at the averages, not the total value.

# Signatures and Avatars
Added: February 1, 2004 - Avatars and signatures should not have any type of nudity or be too risqué, nor are they to contain violence. Basically, nothing sexually explicit or violent. However we also ask that you refrain from using bathing suit-type photos altogether for the purpose of promoting on-topic conversation. We believe this is fair as avatars and signatures are in every forum. In some forums these pictures may or may not be allowed. Thus, there should be no pictures, as stated above, in one's avatar or signature. However, images such as stated in the above may be posted in The Ladies Lounge.

Added: January 15, 2005 - You are permitted one photo per signature. Please keep the dimensions within the 400x300 pixel range and below 40k in size. Exceptions can be made if a signature is wider than 400 pixels, but much shorter than 300 pixels in height (a banner for example). Not only does this make for a sleeker, less congested forum, but it also helps visitors who are limited to 56K dialup connections. Added: January 23, 2006 – The use of quotes from other members in your signature in a derogatory or inflammatory manner is not allowed. This creates bad feelings among fellow members, and is considered a personal attack. Added:14 February 2006 - Politically oriented Sig and Avatars are not permitted. This tends to distract from discussions, much as a sexually explicit one would.

No kidding ... but ultimately it was a win for the FO.

Considering Calvin Johnson signed a 6 year 62 million dollar deal with 27.5 guaranteed as the 2nd overall player in LAST YEARS draft, I'd say we did DAMN good signing Jake Long to the contract that we did as the following years #1 overall

Once again a 6 year deal of course the amount guaranteed will be higher than if that deal was a 5 year deal. At best this deal was the standard increase from year to year but considering its a OL compared to a QB and that he got it done this early, Jake's agent Condon comes out on top in this one.

Does anyone think this will start a mad dash for O-lineman leaving us with some good Defensive players for round 2?

Nice insight.

I'd guess maybe Philip Merling.

4. He's a much safer pick than any of the other players. If he doesnt pan out at LT he can play other O-Line positions which can not be said about McFadden, Ryan, Gholston, or Chris.

5. His overall money is less than Russell's from last year.
the most important part, he gives us the chance to have a FRANCHISE LT!!!! we dont have nething FRANCHISE ON THIS ROSTER BUT HIM AND MAYBE 1 QB. thast it. 2 of the most important spots on a team. but either way, its a possible FRANCHISE LT! SICKK!

On the flip side if VC signs we have bookend OT's for years to come, that to me is a win win situation. Great move by the FO !

That's what the franchise tag is made for.

I admit I wanted Chris Long with the number 1 overall, but in hindsight, the Fins made a very good move getting Jake Long. The run on o-linemen in the first round would have made their following picks reaches instead of BPA's.

Good job Sparano, Parcells and Company!

At least I don't have to see Chris Long in a jersey of a team I loathe.

And I admit the matchup of Jake Long vs. Gholston should be entertaining for years to come, not to mention the possibility of Henne being paired with his college buddy.

If we were to lose VC, I would not worry under this regime. I would worry if it were Cammyboy/JJ/Pornstache

When was the last time a T of VC's caliber hit the FA market? It just doesnt happen or we would have signed them.

That's only part of my point, if VC or his Agent refuses. Using the tag or tender allows the Phins to get something for him.
