more 2009 NFL Mock Drafts....

http://www.nepatriotsdraft.com/2008/...ock-draft.html
Quote:
1. Miami Dolphins - Michael Johnson - DE - Georgia Tech
Johnson should be able to ease the sting of Jason Taylor's departure as he is a guy that can really get to the quarterback.
http://phsports.blogspot.com/2008/08...ock-draft.html
Quote:
2. Miami: George Selvie, LB/DE - South Florida
The junior LB/DE reminds me somewhat of DeMarcus Ware, a former Parcells pick. He…oops…Ireland should have no problems making Selvie the pick. Selvie's 31.5 tackles for loss and 14.5 sacks put him at the Derrick Thomas/Tedy Bruschi level in college.
http://www.nfl-draft-site.com/2008/0...ock-draft.html
Quote:
3) Miami: Rey Maualuga, MLB/USC – Maualuga is one bad man and Parcells builds from the core out unless he sees an unbelievable talent, well Maualuga is that as well. Coupled with the fact that no QB’s are on the board right now, they selected Henne in the 2nd rd of the 08 draft and they picked up the newly released Pennington from the Jets this athletic beast makes the most sense.
http://www.footballdraftanalysis.com/Mock1.html
Quote:
6) Miami Dolphins - James Laurinaitis, LB, Ohio State
When it's all said and done, this may not be the biggest need for the Dolphins.
They added a lot of talent at the LB position this off-season, and should not
finish dead last in the league in terms of rushing yards allowed per game, again.
However, Laurinaitis is an amazing talent who could play any LB position you
put him at. Blessed w/ great size and speed, he would start somewhere. The
Dolphins may be looking for the best player available vs. a direct need. This
team still needs to make a lot of improvements.

Quote:
After losing Zach Thomas this offseason, I think that the Dolphins will try to concentrate next year on adding his replacement. Bill Parcells will look for a player that is capable of leading his defense. It'd be hard to argue that there is any other player in the nation right now that is more of a leader than Laurinaitis is. Because the team has so many holes, they could also likely go with defensive ends Michael Johnson and George Selvie or cornerback Malcolm Jenkins.
http://www.newerascouting.com/home/7...-mock-draft-3/
Quote:
1. Miami Dolphins: ILB Rey Maualuga, USC
Analysis: The Dolphins shored up needs at quarterback, offensive tackle and defensive end in the 2008 draft. The ‘09 class is deep on offensive tackles and linebackers. The athletic Maualuga will step in immediately as a versatile defender for the Dolphins. He has the speed to play outside in the 3-4 scheme, and the strength and vision to play inside next to Channing Crowder.
http://www.freewebs.com/apfootball/2009nflmockdraft.htm
Quote:
4. Miami Dolphins – James Laurinitis ILB, Ohio State. In Year 2 of the Bills Parcells regime, he needs to put the finishing touches on his project. This is his last year and if the Dolphins end up with this pick, they still have a lot of changes to make. The Dolphins cut veteran Zach Thomas, a great player who was battered by injuries last year. Thomas had at least 125 tackles in 11 of his 13 seasons. The 2 other seasons were ones which he missed 5 and 11 games. The Dolphins need to make up his tackling, and Laurinitis would be a great option.

First thing I noticed is that he was constantly being caught from behind. I don't think he is fast enough or big enough to warrant that high of a draft pick.

If UGA wins the national championship this year, I would just about guarantee you that Stafford comes out this year. As a matter of fact, if he has a great year and they don't win it all, but hes looking at top 10 draft status he'll still come out in a heart beat.

we'll basically have to wait and see who performs this year. The biggest holes on our team are LB and CB. We can kind of get away without taking a CB real early because while we lack a playmaking CB, we potentially have decent depth with Allen,Goodman,Lehan, Thomas, and Jones. If we're drafting in the top 10 the only 2 CBs worth talking about are Malcolm Jenkins and Vontae Davis, and I can only see Tuna and Ireland going after Davis if he enters (just seems more like their type of player than Jenkins).

Our LBs however, really lack any stand out ability. Joey Porter is on the wrong side of 30, while Charlie Anderson, Quenton Moses, and Matt Roth are unknown players as OLBs. Channing Crowder has all the talent in the world, but has yet to become anything more than solid. Akin Ayodele is another LB who, while talented, is only solid. Reggie Torbor is a fringe starter in both the 3-4 and 4-3.

Unless a younger guy steps up and becomes a playmaker at either OLB or ILB the 2 prospects that Miami fans should pay most attention to all year are Rey Mauleuga of USC and Michael Johnson of Georgia Tech.

Nice post. I'm pretty sure one of the two CB's, Allen or Goodman, I think it's Allen, has a contract that expires after this season. That could play into things as well. I agree, that the FO would probably focus more on Davis than Jenkins; Jenkins might have better career stats, but he gets beat too much by marginal WRs.

Rey or George Selvie. I'm not that high on Johnson really, but he has raw talent from what I've seen/heard, although more of it is from what I've heard.

Questions/Concerns:

1. FS: A playmaker is needed here.
2. CB: Need someone opposite W. Allen.
3. WR: Still need a #1 WR.
4. OLB: Can Roth and Porter continue their success?

I know he doesn't have breakaway speed, but neither did Jerry Rice. I think Crabtree has fantastic hands and runs great routes. He also is a lot like another Texas Tech grad (Wes Welker) in being able to find open spots. I still would like to see Rey Maualuga in a Phin's uniform, but I would rather have a decent season (say 8-8) and pick a little later.
