Frank Coyle, long time draft evaluator, said that Devin Hester was the best return prospect to come out in over a decade. But Ted Ginn is the best return prospect to come out that he's ever seen.

I would like to see that race anyway. Ginn is fast but there are a few players with his speed and every year there will be another.

oldie but goodie updated comparison

After Ginns 1st full NFL season we have a better comparison b/w the three.

07' stats

T. Ginn Jr
rec: 34/ yds: 420/ avg: 12.4/ tds: 2
pr: 24/ yds: 230/ avg: 9.6/ tds: 1
kr: 63/ yds: 1,433/ avg: 22.7/ tds: 0
fumbles: 3

D. Hester
rec: 20/ yds: 299/ avg: 15/ tds: 2
pr: 42/ yds: 651/ avg: 15.5/ tds: 4
kr: 43/ yds: 934/ avg: 21.7/ tds: 2
fumbles: 7

R. Bush
rec: 73/ yds: 417/ avg: 5.7/ tds: 2
rush: 157/ yds: 581/ avg: 3.7/ tds 4
pr: 3/ yds: 12/ avg: 4/ tds: 0
fumbles: 8

IMO, Bush has been a major disappointment. The #2 overall pick in the draft, he was heralded as the next best insert HOF RB here. He posted a paltry 3.7 yds/carry and didn't break the 100 yard mark in a single game in '07. He did show good hands with 73 receptions out the backfield, but on the contrary, this has given him a 3rd down back label. Bush has yet to prove to be the workhorse he was drafted to be and was only available for 12 games last season, missing the last four with injury. Only 6 total tds with 233 touches and 8 fumbles.

Hester has continued to flourish in the return game even with the ball being kicked away from him and, of course, Lions HC Rod Marinelli's philosophy, "kick the ball into Lake Michigan and make sure it sinks to the bottom.” Despite all the attention he recieved last year, Hester was still able to set the league record for TD returns (6) and is currently fourth on the all-time list with 11 in only 2 seasons. 1st: Brian Mitchell (13), 2nd (tie): Dante Hall & Eric Metcalf (12). Hester has also started to make small contributions in the passing game. Although mostly used as decoy with only 20 catches, Devin still had a decent average of 15 yds/rec. 8 total tds with 103 touches but still fumbled 7 times.

Ted Ginn Jr., was at many times, the lone bright spot in the Dolphins season last year. As the teams #1 WR and with only 34 catches, I'm sure we would have liked to see him develop more in the passing game, but we all know the OL and QB problems contributed heavily into that factor. Although, Ginn did finish strong with 26 of those 34 receptions happening in the last 7 games. Ginn also finished 3rd in he NFL in kick return yardage (1,433), but was 28th in avg return (22.7) among players with at least 20 returns. 3 total tds with 121 touches and only 3 fumbles.

Overall, I would have to pick Hester as the best value of this group, being he was the #57 pick in the draft as opposed to #2 and #9. Even though Hester is primarily a return man, he is a very special one at that and continues to change games, shift momentum and influence opposing teams strategies in doing so. I see a lot of potential in Ginn Jr., especially being a duel threat in the return and passing game. I hope Ted can change my mind in this comparison by the end of next year and I fully believe he is capable of that. Go Fins!

It will be interesting to see how Desean Jackson does this year for the Eagles. He comes into the league with the same pedigree and attributes that Ted Ginn brings and the Eagles got him in the second round.

With a better OL this year and improved QB play (hopefully), let's see what Ginn can do this year, but unless he becomes a true #1 Wr for the Dolphins, he will always be viewed as a horrible pick for the ninth slot in the first round. (..especially when you consider that Yamon Figurs (3rd RD) and Joshua Cribbs (FA) have proven to be better return men than Ginn and are from the same draft class)

On the positive side, Ginn is an explosive player we can all hope turns the corner this year.

I personally think Jackson is a more complete player but he is a little smaller in stature.

If Ginn returns three or four kicks or punts per year over the next few seasons he's worth the 9 th overall pick in the draft even if he is only a good second or third receiver. Devin Hester singlehandedly took the Bears to the Superbowl. Not the QB, not Urlacher, it was Devin Hester. Find me many top ten draft picks that can say that. The fact that a few rookies were better than Ginn doesn't really mean much. Keep in mind Ginn had two big returns called back on penalties. If he scores three TDs on returns as a rookie everyone would have been talking about him. Let's see what happens this year. If he has a couple long returns to win games and improves a little as a receiver, we're in business.
