Source: Salary Cap to be $95M in '06

    From Charles Robinson, Yahoo Sports:

A league source said this week that it is a virtual certainty that the salary cap will jump from $85.5 million to $95 million next year.

If that turns out to be so, we will not enter the offseason over the cap. That also means that a lot of this year's free agents will get paid. Not merely paid. Paid.

That could be a good thing and a bad thing to the NFL. The good thing will be that the teams have more money and the NFL won't be in a lockout. The bad news is that the players will be wanting even bigger contracts and the money would be crazy.

I think it's definitely a good thing. The league and the teams are raking it in, and it's time the mid and lower-tier players got some security out of a job that has an average career length of about 3-4 years.

There's plenty to go around, but people are greedy as hell.
