Dolphins defensive end Kevin Carter helped the Dolphins create $1.125 million in salary cap room when he restructured his contract, agent Harold Lewis said.
Carter agreed to convert $1.5 million of roster bonus into signing bonus. That amount was then prorated over the final four years of Carter's deal to open the cap space.

hey clumpy what do you think is next to save cap space, what makes sense?
Jason Taylor and Zach Thomas to restructure would be the next and possibly final step to save money.
I do not believe Miami will do anything with either player. Miami has enough cap space do what they wanna do right now.....if I were a betting man though....they could do a simple restructure of Marty Booker or convert other roster bonuses to signing bonuses....

clumpy i just have some general salary type questions...
when a roster bonus or any kinda bonus is renegotiated into a signing bonus, how does that work with the proration? is it just prorated for the remaning years on the contract... or is it prorated throughout the entire length of the contract and any years that have already passed are added to the current years cap?
also this time of year when people get all kinda extra bodies on their rosters before they have to be cut, its only the top 52 guys contracts that count against the cap correct?
aaaaand when they are announcing a contract, when they are talking about guaranteed money, is that JUST the signing bonus? or does that include future roster bonus, and other kinda bonus'?
