No way.
I wish....I wouldn't mind seeing us adding the 3-4 defense as a wrinkle to Jim Bates D...It's been discussed before but i think the additions of Knight and Seau give us realistically the option..The Pats have done it fairly effectively and are thinking of permanently doing it...They aren't the most talented team but confuse teams very effectively with different schemes..This shows you it can be done or mixed in with the normal 4-3 defense...Could be interesting..
Wally and JT on the outside...
Timbo rotating with Chester in the middle..
Zach and Junior in the middle...On the outside Knight (played OLB in college and we all know he can put a licking on anyone) and Moore/Greenwood...
This would allow Freeman to come in and play with Marion...
Only dreaming but thoughts ?
Once, after a blast of six or seven yards, Brown was the first to regain his feet. When he got back to the huddle he was blowing hard - but the inert figures of three Giants marked the trail where he had passed, like the breadcrumbs on the forest path of Hansel and Gretel. For mercurial speed, airy nimbleness and explosive violence in one package of undistilled evil, there is no other like Mr. Brown.
No way.
We don't have the right kind of LB's for it.

3-4 defenses are garbage. The players we have are meant to play in a 4-3 defense. Jason Taylor is a good enough reason to stay in a 4-3.
3-4 sucks. We do not have the blitzing LBs and our DEs would get shut down in the 3-4.

Well not for nothing but the last 3 teams to win the super bowl did it with defense, and 2 of those 3 readily switched in and out of the 3-4.
Both Baltimore and New England had defensive coordinators who employed the 3-4 throughout the season almost as often as they employ a 4-3.
So consider that before you make judgements on the merits of the 3-4 period. That being said, Junior Seau is the only linebacker we have that has the requisite size for a 3-4 linebacker because they must be for the most part, pretty big and our linebackers, for the most part, are very small.
yep, plus chester and bowens protect zach, which allows them to keep 2 safeties back most of the time. plus the fins d isn't an attacking one, it's a 'you're gonna f up some time, and we'll be there when you do' defense
We will prevail!!
We are the Hokies!!
We will prevail!!
WE ARE VIRGINIA TECH!!
NO WAY!!! Zach plays good because of the big defensive tackles that are in front of him... without one of them, Zach will be lost in a sea of other LB's... plus, Knight is used to playing safety, and i dont want freeman back there again... I could see teams with great third corners beating us badly... Plus, the 3-4 scheme is for teams trying to stop short passes like to the TE or 3 WR... or it is used to stop a running back from running on the outside... JR and Morlorn are fast enough to catch sweeping RB's, and TBO and Chester can stop runners up the middle... we are fine with what we are doing...
"This is my offense"
Whole new hairstyle, and a whole new attitude... As always... GO RICKY!!! #34
3-4 Is for stoping sweeps. The only team to do any damage outside was the Bills. Our D is fast enough to stop sweeps. 3-4s make it hard to stop gut runs.
As for the Ravens running a 3-4 in there SB run 50% of the time ??
No they had those big DTs Adams and Tony. Rob Burnet, and McCrary. They had Lewis in the middle and Sharper and Bowlware on the outside. They ran a 4-3 90% of the time. Ray Lewis was jus so active it FELT like there were 2 inside LBs.
The ravens started to use the 3-4 full time last year, but a big part of that was Adams and Siragusa leaving. One of the reasons that Marvin Lewis left the Ravens to become DC of the redskins was the front office wanted to switch to a 3-4 because of the playersl they had. Marvin had other feelings. They did make the switch, but didn't really play a traditional 3-4.
Everything was funnelled to Ray Lewis. This is why their defense was so much more effective when Ray was out there.,
